@Llge l1thlllt were it in time finite tgatenttnt mating part at its smut.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, LEWIS HORTON and JOSIAH A. McGAW, of Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough, and State of New Hampsl1ire,have invented a new and improved Trunk-Caster; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,- in whichi t Figure 1 represents a front view of a trunl; provided with our improved corrugated swivel-casters.
Figure 2 represents a bottom view of the same.
Figure 3 represents a detached section of the caster.

This invention relates to an improvement in the construction and arrangement of casters for 't'runhs and other similar articles, and 'ccnslsts in a corrugated caster-roller hung in a frame that is swivelled on a pivot rigidly fastened to a plate thatis attached, by nails orserews, to the bottom of a trunk or other article, as hereinafter described.
The ordinary caster is attached to a frame with a shank that revolves in a ferrule or socket, and is easily broken and got out of order by the leverage strain upon the shanln To obviate thisdiiiiculty, we have devised a caster, the frame of which revolves on a fixed pivot fastened to a plate, and, at the same time, hears fiat upon the smooth surface of'the plate, whereby the weight of the trunk is supported without any strain'on the caster to bend or break it.
A represents a trunl ;,-on which is fastened a smooth metal plate, a, in which is set and fixed u pin, c, on which is pivoted allot-bottomed caster-frame, b, for supporting the corrugated roller (Z, that is hung in the sides a e. It will be ohs erved that the bottom of the caster-frame bi'ests always upon the plate a, when it turns on the fixed pivot-pin c, and thus prevents anystrain on the caster, sorthat a trunk or other article to which it is applied may lie-moved about in any direction without danger of brenlring the caster.
,Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to sccureby Letters Patent, is-
The trunk-caster,consisting of the plate a, to whichthe plate Z: is hung by the pin a, said plate bearing between the two'arms e the corrugated roller d, all constructed as described, whereby the plate a is secured in place without the pin 0 entering the bottom of the trunk, and the plate I) allowed. to revolve in contact with the plate a without leverage, as herein shown and described.
The-above specification of our invention signed by us, this 30th day of November, 1867.

JOSIAH. A. McGrAW Witnesses:
