Figure 2 shows 'a plan or top `view of the -wash-board and beaters, and mode of operating them.

The object jof my invention inthe production of a goed practical and eilicient washing-machine; and it' consists inthe construction of the washing or Buds-box; the construction of the -beatersso that they maybe weighted, the same working on friction-rollersrso as to operate easily and the arrangement of mechanism for working therbeaters; the corrugated hiugodcoveror hand-washing board, forsoaping and partly .washing the i more soiledrpcrtions of garments.- v

The frames which form the sides of the ends-box A-A, are made of boards, out in the proper form, so that the end-board B when fitted in, is in a vertical position. The bottom,'C, may be of sheet zinc, galvanizediron, or any other suitable material, so secured to. the end-board B andv the sidesA A,'that the washing-box ,will

When the lid H is opened, and rests back on the end-board B, it is in the position foruse as a wash-board, for Soaping and Y rubbing out the most soiled portion's of clothes, such as collars, wristbands, fito., by hund in the usual manner.

In the top cndsof the pounders D D are boxes I I, in which to place weights J J, so that any desired force may4 bc broughtito bear on the clothes, to pound and compress them between the pounder-facsg g and the board G. The'mnchiue-mey'be geared and operatedby a crank, either by hand or 'other power.
