UNITE STATES Patented January 5, 1904.
PATENT ()FFICE.
STEAM-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,765, dated January 5, 1904. Application filed May 2a, 1903. Serial No. 158,841. (No model.)
at Clairton, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Steam-Boilers, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the construction of a steam-boiler, and has for its object the rapid generation of steam, economy of fuel, and safety from total destruction in case of collapse or explosion.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the boiler. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is an inner end view of one of the headers, the drums and tubes being removed. Fig. 4: is a similar view of the outer end of the header.
Referring specifically to the drawings, a indicates a horizontally-disposed steam and water drum, having a similar drum 1) on each side thereof. Both ends of the drums communicate with headers c, which extend below the drums, as at d. A mud-.drum e is located below the drums a and b and is connected to the headers by a series of watertubes f, extending therefrom to the headers below the drums at and b. The tubes slant downwardly toward the mud-drum, which faance to rupture is great, and it is not liable to total destruction in case of collapse or explosion. 1
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A boiler comprisinga horizontally-disposed drum, a similar drum of lesser area on each side thereof, a header on each end of the drums commnnicatin g therewith,a mud-drum between the headers, and tubes extending upwardly from the mud-drum to each header, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have. signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
