Description

i tetes @aient @Ittre Letters Patent No. 74,873, dated February 25, 1868.
4IMPROVEFIEEI IN CULINARY STEAMERS.'
*6tlg-e .Maule metta itin tipa ttttett meut mit mating put at its tame.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONGERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WoRsTER, of Bangor, in the county of Penobscot, and State of Maine, .have invented a new and useful Improvement in CulinaryV Steamers; and I do hereby declare that the following is af'ull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a partof this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view, and i l Figure 2 is a vertical section, takenon lineA B, fig. il;
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts inthe several figures.
The nature ofmy invention consists in combining with `the water-tank a plurality of receptacles for the articles to bc steamed, each of said receptacles having a separate steam-communication with the tank 3 also in a peculiarly-formed movable receptacle, to be used either in combination With'the tank, or with any size of water-vessel usually employed in cooking;
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. Y
In the drawings, O represents the watertank, with a smallerV portion, D, which itsinto'th'e hole in the stove or range, aud forms the direct hre-surface. This tank is provided with a cover, and is formed steamtight. a auf are tubes, inserted in and firmly attached to eoverj,Y and near the tops of these Vtubes are secured the receptacles b b b, iu which are placed the articles to be steamed, and for this purpose covers, a's shown at cZ, are employed to cover the food and confine the steam. By allowing the tubes a 'a to extend upward above the vbottoms of the receptacles as shown, the water condensed from the steam does not -flow back into the tank, but, passing through hole z., flows o through conductora' toV some vessel placed to receive it. Each of the receptacles bl Z1 may communicate with the conductor z' if desired, or the condensed steam may be conducted from each separately. Byserrating the'tops of tubes a a, as shown at ce, plates or. other dishes may be placed in'the receptacles-b b without retarding the ow of steam. 'e isra. movable tube, attached to a thimble in the Y centre-ofcover j, as shown. The top of this tube is slightly enlarged, and the receptacle f is placed upon it.
Byrthus using removable tubes in connection with the tank and receptacles, the capacity of th'e steamer isA increased without a corresponding increase of size, and, when -not inuse, it is equally as compact as if of less capacity.`
The receptacle j' is formed with a circular riu1,`g g, which prev-vents the return of the condensed steam to i the tank.l This receptacle can be `used upon ordinary kettles, varying in size from its greatest diameterto the diameter of rim gg, thus adapting it to a great variety of purposes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Combining .with tank O a plurality of receptacles, b b 6, substantially inmanner as described andshown.
2. 4Combining the receptacles I) I; with the tubes a a, sovthat the tubes prevent the return of thecondensed steam to the tank, substantially in manner as andy for the purposes-speci-ed, Y'
3. Serrating the curbs .or upper ends of tubes a a, as shown at c e, substantially as and for thejpurposes specified. t
4. In connection with receptacles b 6, a conductor, z', substantially as described and shown.
5. Combining with tank C, provided with fired receptacles t b', a removable receptacle, f, substantially as fiescribed'and shown. i A Y i ,6. The removable receptacle'f, formed to fit vesselsof various sizes by its outward flare, and provided with the interior rim g g, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
