ATTACH M ENT FOR PLOWS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 748,682, dated January 5, 1904.
Application filed. February 25, 1903. $eria-1No. 145,064. (No model.)
tachment for Plows, of which the following is a specification,
My device is an attachment for plows, and is in the nature of a subsoil-plow; and the object is to construct a plow adapted to press the earth to one side and loosen it up, butnot to throw the subsoil to the top, where it would dry out and become baked.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement, showing it attached toa plow. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bracket detached. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the connecting-bar. Figs. 4,5, and 6 are detail views of the shoe detached.
In carrying out my invention I construct a bracket A, adapted to be secured to one side of a plow-beam. This bracket comprises a forwardly-extending horizontal member A and a forwardly and downwardly inclined member A the two members being connected at the rear by the curved portion of the bracket and also by the integral oblique strengthening member A The forward end of the member A is enlarged, and this enlarged portion is vertically slotted at A while toward the rear the member A is longitudinally slotted at A5. The member A has a plurality of perforations A The connecting-bar C is a flat straight piece of metal having a plurality of perforations C in its upper portion adapted to aline with the perforations A The bar also has a perforation 0 adjacent its lower end.
The point B of the subsoiler is substantially diamond-shaped, bent in the center, the ends beingsharpenedand extending forward of the central portion. On the rear side are centrally formed a pair of perforated lugs B.
Bolts are passed through the plow-beam adapted to aline with slots A and A and in the straight bar.
assembling the parts of my attachment the bracket A is secured to the sides of the plowbeam, the length of the slot A allowing for variations in the positions of the bolt-holes in the plow-beam. The bar 0 is secured, by means of suitable bolts, to the perforated member of the bracket, and the lower end of the bar fits between the lugs B, and by means of bolts and nuts of the common type the point can be secured to the bar at. the desired angle. The plurality of perforations in the member A and bar 0 permits the depth at which the point will work to be varied, and the vertical slot A permits adjustment of the bracket, whereby the angle of the point can be adjusted so that it will always be in alinement with the plow with which it is used. The point is sharpened at longitudinal, horizontal slot adjacent the.
rear end of the horizontal portion, a perforated, rear, downwardly and forwardly inclined portion, a central, curved, connecting portion, a straight, flat bar having a plurality of perforations formed adjacent its upper end and adapted to be adjustably secured to the perforated downwardly-extending portion of the bracket, and a plow-point adapted to be pivotally connected to the lower end of EUGENE H. ALLMAN. Witnesses:
H. H. HIGBY,
CARL GEORG.
