TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HARRIET RUTH TRACY, ofthe city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Crib-Attachment for Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full ,.clear, and exactndesoription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying" drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure is a side view, partly in section, of a bedstead illustrating my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the crib.
FigureB is a vertical cross-section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its'object to furnish an improved bedstead and crib, so constructed and arranged that when the crib is not in use, and is pushed into its place in the bedstead, the said bedstead and crib shall present a neat and uniform appearance, giving no indication of the presence of the cribattachment; and it consists in cutting away the side or end-boards of the bedstead; in the combination of guide-bars with the bedstead; in
the combination of a crib, cribs, truckle-bed or trundlc-bed with the cut portion and guide-bars of the bedstead; in hinging the upper partsof the head and foot-boards of the crib; and in the combination with the crib of adjustable extcnsiondcgs; the whole'being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A are the end-boards, and B are the side-boards of the bedstead. The middle part of one of the side-boards, B, is cut away, as shown in dotted lines in fig. 1, said cut being of the desired length ofthe crib, and extending' up nearly to the slots C of the bedstead. This cut may be made in-either or both the sideboards, or in the footboard, according'to the direction in which it, is desired to have the crib draw out or the number of cribs it is desired to usc.
D are guide-bars, securely attached to the frame of the bedstead, at each end of the cut, to keep the crib in proper position as it is being pushed in or drawn out.
The front side or end-board of the crib E may be made larger than the cabin the side or end-board of the bedstead, so as to overlap said side or end-board, and present the appearance of ornamental work, as shown in fig. 1, and wholly cover or conceal said out. 'The upper part of the end-boards of the crib may be hinged to the lower parts, as shown in figs. 2 and 3, so as to turn or fold down over the said crib. This allows the crib .to. be made in a uniform shape and style with the bedstead, when desired.
F are the posts, to which the side and end-boards of the crib are attached, and which are made hollow to rcceivethe adjustable extension-legs G.
The extension-legs Gmay be maderound or square, and should fit accurately into the holes in the posts I", so that whc'mthe frame of the crib is raised up, the said legs G may drop down of their own weight, where they may be secured in place by a pin, passing in through the posts F, or by a spring-catch, or in'any other convenient and substantial manner. 7 I
The legs G should also be provided with stops, to prevent them from dropping entirely out of the posts F when the frame of the crib is raised. Those stops may be a pin attached to the said legs G, and working in a slot in the posts F, as shown in the drawings, or they may be any other convenient device for accomplishing the same thing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The bedstead, when cut away in the centre of its side to receive the crib E, sliding beneath the bars 0 and between the transverse guide-bars I), attached to thcframe of the bedstead, the front end-board of said crib enlarged to overlap the cut portion of the side-of the bedstead, as herein set forth, for the purpose specified.
HARRIET RUTH TRACY.
Witnesses;
Amanm'rnm BRISBANE, Gnomes A. Hrcxox.
