PATENT OFFICE.
PALETTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 748,026, dated December 29, 1903.
Application filed June 5,1902. Serial No. 110,262. (No model.)
To a whom it may concern.-
Beit known that LWILLIAM A. SUssMILoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefullmprovementsin Palettes,of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to form a palette with receptacles for holding pigments and a series of receptacles within which pigments are mixed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face representation of my improved palette. Fig. 2 is a section on dotted line a, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on dotted line b, Fig. l.
The palette is pressed from sheet material and properly finished to receive water-color pigments. Four openings 1, 2, 3, and 4 are formed in the palette, each of a size and form to receive and hold a pan containing waterpigment. The opening 4 has a pan 5 located therein. These pans have inclined side walls, as more clearly shown in Fig. 2. Hence they may be tightly forced or fitted in the openings 4, and when they are thus placed they are not likely to fall out. As the openings extend entirely through the palette, it will be apparent that the pans can be easily forced out with the finger when desired.
The face of the palette has a center receptacle or depression 6, and around this center depression is formed a series of depressions 7, and a series of larger depressions 8 are located outside of the series of depressions 7.
The size and number of depressions may be varied as the demand requires.
The thumb-opening 9 is stamped out, leaving sections 10 and 11 curved to fit the thumb.
By this construction the pans containing the pigments and the mixed pigments are supported by the palette, and the palette can further provided with openings which extend entirely therethrough, some of said openings being located between adjacent depressions of the outermost series, and color-pans having inclined side walls removably fitted in said openings.
WILLIAM A. SUSSMILOH.
