The nature of myinvention will be best understood from a description of one embodiment thereof shown in the accompanying tion selected for illustration herein and shown in the drawings, a is a usual chase,containing a relatively small form'b, which is to be locked:

The member 6 comprises a qnoin-like base e of suitable construction. such, for instance, as the well-known Wickersham quoin,r shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 453,226, dated June 2, 1891, the same being operated by a key inserted at e and manipulated in usual manner. One of the faces of the member e is provided with a longitudinal channel or groove 6 to receive the member f, which is adapted to slide therein. One of the side walls of the groove e is channeled, as at e to receive the guiding-lug f on the member f.

For this purpose I have provided the member f at one of its side faces with a series of recesses f preferably cylindrical, or other shape presenting parallel side walls. In use the lock-up is placed in position and with the finger-lever depressed its members are extended to obtain the closest approximate adjustment possible with the lockingpins and recesses described. Final adjustment and locking are then obtained by means of the qnoin-like base 0, which is expanded by use of the key at 6 Theengagement between the locking-pins'c and the recesses f is sureand reliable, and the-quoin-like base e furnishesa most efficient means for obtaining the final lock-up. Consequently there is no liability of accidental loosening.

1. An extensible lock-up device comprising the relatively sliding members, one provided with a series of recesses, the other with one or more simultaneously-operating locking devices to positively lock said member in all directions, the pivoted actuating-lever therefor, and other quoin-like adjusting means for the purpose described. 2. An extensible lock-up device comprising two members, one having sliding engagement With the other, means comprisingspringoperated pin on one member and recess on the other member to positively lock said members in all directions in approximate adjustment, and a quoin mounted upon the end of one of said members and constituting an extended base therefor.

In an extensible lock-up device, a plurality of relatively slidable members, a plurality of locking-recesses on one of said members, cooperating locking-pins on the other member and supplemental quoin -like adjusting means at one extremity of one of said members.

4. In an extensible lock-up device, a plurality of relatively longitudinally slidable members, a plurality of locking-recesses on one of said members, cooperating sliding locking-pins on the other member whereby the members are positively locked in all directions, and supplemental qnoin-likeadjusting means at one extremity of one of said members.

5. In an extensible lock-up device, a plurality of relatively slid-able members, one member provided with a groove within which the other member is adjustable, a plurality of locking-recesses in one of said members, a plurality of locking-pins on the other member, a spring-actuated lever for throwingsaid pins into and out of engagement with said recesses and supplementalquoin-like adjusting means on one extremity of one of said members.
