To all whom it may concern: l

Be it known that I, BENGT WALLGREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Rutherford, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Fire-Kindler, of which the following is a specication.

This invention relates to fire-kindlers of the class composed of compounds of inliammable or combustible materials,and has for its object to simplify and improve articles or products of this character; and it consists in combining rosin, tallow, and woody material in the manner and in about the proportions hereafter described.

In producing theimproved article rosin and tallow are melted and combined and applied as a coating to a relatively thin slab of wood or woody material and an outer coating of wood-shavings, eXcelsior, wood-pulps, or the like added to the rosin and tallow compound before they harden.

For the purpose of illustrating the manner of producing the improved ire-kindler a perspective figure is shown in the drawing representing the various steps employed in its production.

In the illustration, l0 represents the foundation or base, which may be of soft wood or other woody material, ll the coating of combined rosin and tallow, and l2 the outer layer of shavings, excelsior, paper-pulp, or similar material, preferably in finely-divided particles, as shown.

The foundation member l0 governs the size and configuration of the product, and this will preferably be relatively thin and of material which is at the same time cheap and readily combustible and which will impart fiercely and in turn ignite the contiguous and surrounding fuel, as will be obvious.

In the manufacture of the article I employ a compound formed of ten parts of rosin to eight parts of tallow, by weight, and these are thoroughly mixed together and then applied as a coating to the wood.

I-Iaving thus described the invention, what I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, a firekindler composed of a foundation or core of wood, an inner coating or envelop of rosin and tallow combined in the proportions of eight parts of tallow and ten parts of rosin,

and an outer envelop of iinely-divided woody material such as shavings, wood-pulp or the like loosely arranged upon the coating of rosin and tallow.
