CHARLES A. EVANS, OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS.
LEAF-'FU RN ER.-l
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters Patent N0. 746,803, dated December 15, 1903.
Application filed March 4, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. EVANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State ofA Massachusetts, have invented certainV new and useful Improvements in Leaf-Turners, of which the following is a specification,
This inventions a linger attachment of peculiar and novel formation designed to facilitate the turning of leaves at a determinate point.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached.
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the device applied to the thumb or finger of the human hand. Fig. 3 is an end view.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. Y
The leaf-turner comprises, essentially, two parts, clip 1 and leaf-engaging hook 2, the latter being disposed at one side of the clip. The clip l is open at its ends to admit of it being itted to the thumb or linger of the hand, so as not to interfere with the free use of said thumb or finger in anycapacity, such as required for handling books, papers, -or other articles. The clip besides being open at its ends consists of a split band, whereby Serial No. 146,200. (No model.)
it may betted to dierent-sized thumbs or fingers either by contracting or expanding the clip. The leaf-engaging hook 2 is an integral part of the clip and is located at a side thereof and is formed, preferably, by folding a part of the clip upon itself. The location of the hook 2 is immaterial and will depend largely upon the particular use of the article. The device will also be constructed in rights and lefts, so as to be conveniently used upon either hand. The engaging hook 2 is preferably formed by a forward corner portion of the clip being folded upon itself, said hook curving longitudinally to approximate the curvature of the clip, whereby it may be worn with greater convenience and ease of operation. The end portions of the clip are upwardly and rearwardly extended, as shown at 3', to form bracing-wings to extend along the sides of the thumb or finger and prevent displacement or turning of the clip when the hook 2 is engaged with the leaves of a book and force applied for turning said leaves, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The device when applied to the thumb or nger does not obstruct the end or ball thereof, which would detract in a measure from the eiciency of the article.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A leaf -turner comprisnga split springclip having a leaf-engaging hook at one side and having upwardly and rearwardly extended bracing-wings, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
