PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ISAAC STAMPER, OF MEADE, KANSAS.
COMBINED REIN HOLDER AND GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,599, dated December 8, 1903.
Application filed March 11, 1903. Serial No. 147,257. (No modelj T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES IsAAc STAMPER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Meade, in the county of Meade and State of Kansas, have made certain new and usefullmprovements in a Combined Rein Holder and Guide, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to combined rein holders and guides; and it consists of a new and improved holder and guide of the char-- acter stated, which will be hereinafter fully described and the novel features pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a view illustrating my inventionin use. Fig. 2 is a detached view showing its hinged members open, and Fig. 3 is a view illustrating a modified form.
Referring to the drawings, A and A denote suitable members of my guide, which are jointed by hinged connection at B and have elongated eyes C at their free ends, as shown in Fig. 2.
C C denote rollers supported on cross-bars D D. The ends of the cross-bars extend into suit-able recesses in theinner side of the frame members 'A A. According to my invention the rollers should be spaced apart, adapted to permit free play of a rein and at the same time support it in flat condition with both sides thereof removed from rubbing contact with the guide.
The main feature of novelty residing in my guide is the. two spaced rollers described above. The elongated eyes at the free ends of the frame members simply adapt the guide for use with spread-straps, as will be un-' derstood. Obviously the free ends of the frame members may be bent and perforated, adapting the guide for direct connection to the hames by a suitable securing-bolt, as shown in Fig. 3 of my drawings. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a combined rein guide and holder, employing frame members hinged together at one end and adapted at their free ends for connection together and also to a suitable support, the frame members having spaced recesses on their inner sides, of spaced rollers crossing the joint of the frame members, havingone end journaled in the said recesses in one frame member and their other ends journaled in the recesses in the opposite frame member, substantially as described.
2. The improved article of manufacture consisting of a rein-guide having frame members hinged together at one end and adapted at their free ends for connection together and also to a suitable support, the frame members having spaced recesses on theirv inner sides, and of rollers having journal-shaped ends adapted to enter and be rotatably' supported in the said recesses in the opposite frame members, substantially as described.
