To IALL WHOM IT MAY coNoERN=- 4 Be it known that I, NAOLEON SARONY, of the city and State of New York, have invented and made a c'er tain' new and useful Improvement in Photographic Rests; and l do hereby declaro the following tonbe a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, whereini I i i Figure 1 is a vertical section ofthe photographic rest with the cabinet extension-panel. , This invention is an improvement upon that for which Letters Patent were granted to Oliver Sa'rony, June 5, A. D. 1866, and consists in an improved support `for thevarious rests thatare employed for sustaining the human body in the positions required for the picture. 4

By my improved construction the rests are placed with great facility in the desired position, the stand itself being fixed tothe iioor or platform, and the construction is such that the parts are not so large, orso liable to be seen in the picture, as in the aforesaid patent. A

In 'the drawing, a represents the base of the stand or column secured permanently to the platform or door. a is the column or pedestal, firmly but removably connected to the base, a', `by being screwed or otherwise connected thereto, so that the column and rest may be moved to another baseLsecured to a different part of the oor or platform. In this column is a rod, b, that can be yraised or lowered, and secured by the clamping-screw c, so as to place'tle apparatus at any desired height. d is a head-block, that rests upon the top of the rod b, and is'clamped in any position to which it may be turned, horizontally, by the nut e. In this head-block Z is a transverse m'ortise, through whichpasses the vertical boltf, that is employed tol secure the rest-holder g at 4 any position to which it may be moved transversely upon said head-block d. At theends of the rest-holder g are sockets, through which pass-the round rods h of the rest, and are clamped at any desired point by the screws z, and c are horizontal or inclined rods passing through the heads of the rods 7i, and secured by clampscrews l, and lm are -the branches and balls, or other devices, forming a rest for the head or'any part of the body. It will be evident that one or two of these rods z and rests may be employed, and that it may be adjusted to any desired position relatively to the columnaaior raised to any desired height. Where the rest is to be thrown into a different position relative to the column than that provided by the holder-,9,1` take the same oil` and apply the army that holds the rod h and rest, as seen in fig. 1, and this rest may stand behind the column, or, by giving the head-block el a half rotation,.horizontally, it ,may extend in front of the column. I provide a table or stand, n, on a segmental arm, n', that is attachedto the head-block oZ by the end passing into a mortise, and being secured by a clamp-screw, and the table'is movable upon said armso as to be held at any desired point, and the arm n may be placed, either end first, intoeither of the mortisesupon the head-block CZ, as rendered necessary by the position of the person. I

In order to furnish a cabinet or. straight or ornamental table, I make use of the table p, sustained upon a slide, g, that has a stud setting into a socket in the head-block el, and on this slide g the table j) may be moved in either direction as required for the position ofthe person; and to form an ornamental cabinet front Iintroduce the extension-panel r, that is connected at its upper end to the under side of the tablep, and is formed with any desired ornamental panelled surface, upon which the'sliding base t is applied, said base, t, being guided by a vertical rod, u, in a groove in the back of said panel'r, so that'the base can remain upon the platform or floor while the panel is raised orV lowered with the table p, as that may be adjusted to the proper height for the person, the panel r, at its lower part,`sliding behind the said base, t. By this construction the external appearanceof the cabinet front is maintained regardless of the variations of height required for the table or rest. It will be understood that when a group of persons is to bc taken, thc rest-holdcr-g may be made of any desired length, and receive two or more rods and rests, thereby obtaining the necessary rests for severa-l persons, 'and only one column or pedestal.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
