PATENT OFFICE.
ADJUSTABLE TRACE ATTACHMENT FOR HAM ES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,209, dated November 24, 1903.
Application filed September 5, 1903. Serial No. 172.185. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, EDGAR LITTMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adj ustableTrace Attachments for Hames, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof. I
My invention relates to improvements in an adjustable trace attachment for hames; and it consists in the novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts, as will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to construct a device to be applied to the hames whereby the trace may be vertically adjusted and the same be removed from the casting without the removing of screws or the like.
Figure 1 is a view of a portion of the hames, showing my device in position. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of my invention. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken below the upper hook, showing the relative position the trace-supporting loop may assume.
4 indicates a casting provided with a plurality of hooks 5, the lower one being pro- Vided with an integral loop 6, in which is sup- 1 a pair of the hooks 5. The ends of the loop 9 are provided with V-shaped recesses 11, which are designed to fit over the edge 12, formed in the casting 4, (seeFig. 3,) when it is desired to remove said loop from the hooks.
The trunnions 10 are normally held in the position as shown in Fig. 2 and by dotted lines in Fig. 3. This position is assumed when the device is in its operative position and support- 5 ing the trace.
is provided with the depression 13 and is for the purpose of allowing the free and undisturbed movement of the ends of the loop. By this construction it will be impossible for the loop to detach itself from the hooks unless it is brought in the position asindicated by solid lines in Fig. 3, and this must necessarily be done by the person when desiring to remove said loop from the hooks.
The object of the adjusting feature is to bring the trace on the proper line of draft, and should the teamster discover that the trace is either too high or too low he can readily remove the loop and place it between the hooks desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a casting, a plurality of hooks formed on said casting, a depression formed in said casting between the hooks, a trace-loop, integral trunnions formed on said trace-loop, recesses formed on the ends of said trace-loop and adapted to fit over the edge of the casting when desired to remove the loop from the hooks, substantially as specified.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a casting, hooks formed integral with said casting, a depression formed in said casting in the space between said hooks, a trace-loop supported between a pair of said hooks, re-
cesses formed in the ends of said loop and arranged to fit over the edge of the casting when desired to remove said loop, said loop retained in position by means of the hooks and depression 13 except when the recesses are in contact with the edge of said casting, substantially asspecified.
' In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDGAR LITTMANN.
