Description

JOSEPH SNYDERy OF ROCK LICK,l WEST VIRGINIA.
Letters Patent No. 74,441, elatedy February 11. 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN GULTIVATORS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
l Be it known that I, JOSEPH SNYDER, of Rock Lick, in the county oMarshall, and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and liseful Improvement in Cultivato'rs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the .accompanying drawings, making a portion of this specication, in which-s Figure 1 is a side view and partial section of a cultivator made according tg lmy invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same. i
Sinziila` letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention consists in a novel construction of a cultivator, whereby the same is madevery strong and durable, and also very eilicient in operation.
To enable-others to understand ther nature and eonstruction'of my invention, I willproceed to describe it with reference to the drawings.
A indicates the main beam of the implement, to the forward end of which may be attached a link or clevis, a, and the rearmost portion o f which is bent downward, as. shown at b, with. a triangular o`r other properlyshaped share, c, bolted tothe extremity thereof. Shown at B is a supplemental beam, firmly bolted at its forward end to the side of the main beam, and situated at an angle thereto, as represented more plainly in fig. 2. This supplemental beam does not extend back as far as the main beam, but it has its rearmost end bent or turned downward in the same manner as the aforesaid main beam, and furnished with a similar share, d. Attached in any suitable manner to the two sides of the main beam, are the two handles, C, which' may be made of wrought-iron bars, and which, extending obliquely back and upward, terminate in appropriate handle-pieces, e. The back portions of the two handles, C, are connected by a crossbrace,f, and extending downward there from to the rear part of the main beam, are two `oblique strengthening-braces, g. An additional'brace, m, extends from one of the handles, C, to the contiguous end of thesupplemental beam B, and serves to `stilfen or snpportthe same against any lateral strain exerted thereon.
As thus constructed, the cultivator is very strong, and consequently very durable, and little liable'to getout of repair, and may, furthermore, be manufactured at a veryjmoderatel cost, and is also very light, and convenient to handle when in use. i V
What .I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by VLetters Patent, is- The cultivator, constructed with the curved main'beam A, and curved supplemental beam B, shares c d, handles C, and braces f, g, and m, the whole arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified'.
