Description
is' tiuitml tite.
A. J. TRAVER, ,or LISBURMPENNSIYLVANIA. Lette/rs Patent No. 88,233, dated Mez/rch 23, 1869.
To all 'whom 'it may concern Beit known that I, A. J. TRAVER, of Lisbum, in the county of Cumberland, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a newand useful Improvementin Plows; and I do hereby declare thatv the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichv Figure l is a side view.
Figures 2 and 3 are views in detail of ratchet and lever.
Like letters in the figures ofthe drawings, indicate like parts.
My invention has reference to a double-shovel plow, haring shafts suitably provided with shovels; and consists of two peculiarly-constructed levers, pivooted to the tops of the shafts, and having spiral springs so arranged with the levels and shafts, and ratchet-s in combination with the levers, as that the levers will afford a simple and convenient mode of adjusting the shovels atan angle requisite for throwing the soil to or from the rows of the corn.
To enable any one skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A A are standards, suitably inclined forward, and attached to the beam B.
Attached also to the beam, are the handles O.
' D D are the shafts, having their bearings in boxes a, suitably constructed, and attached to the standards.
The standards are secured by brace-rods b to the beam.
E E are the levers, which are tted over the tops of the shafts, and secured thereto by pivots c.
F F are the spiral springs, the ends of which are properly secured to the levers and shafts.
G G are the ratchets, which are secured by screws to the tops and rear sides ofthe standards.
The operation is as follows:
By pressing either lever back, and turning the shaft, the required angle will be given the shovel, the spring keeping the lever in the teeth of the ratchet. Thus, at any time, it is within the province of the operator to instantly change the angle of the shovel, as may be desired, while operating .the plow.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim therein as new, and desire to secure byl Letters Patent, is-
The levers E E and spiral springs F F, as constructed and arranged forward of the shafts, or standards D D, substantially in the manner-and forV the purpose as herein shown and described.
4 A.. J. TRAVER.
