Be it known that I, CHARLES M. BRoNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Labelle, in the county of Lewis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoops or Bands for Milk- Crocks, of which the following is a specifica# tion.

My invention relates todevices for securing the cloth on milk crooks-or jars; and it consists in certain improvements in the hoop or band, whereby the same is adapted for different sizes of jars, and also in certain im'- provements in the means for securing the band or hoop in relation to the jar.

These improvements will hereinafter be more particularly described and finally pointed out in the claims.

vThe nature, characteristic features, and scope of the invention will be more clearly understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, wherein- Figure l is a side elevational view of a hoop or band embodying features of the invention shown in its relation to the crock and cloth. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the crock with lthe hoop applied thereto, and Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of a modification.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the crock or jar, and 2 represents the usual cloth, which permits the milk to be aerated or relieved of its animal heat.

A represents the means for securing the cloth in relation to the crock or jar, said means comprising a hoop or band ct and an intermediate coil-spring b for exerting the necessary tension upon thehoop.

Referring more particularly to Figs'l and 2, the coil-spring is provided at its respective end with loops or eyes c d, which extend in the direction of the spring, the arms of which have hook-like terminals e, which engage the coils of the spring. One end of the hoop or band a has a sort of hinge connection with the member c by having its end a. passed through said eye or member and doubled upon itself, while the opposite end a2 of the hoop passes through the smaller eye or member d and is clamped between the spring b, a portion of the hoop a, and the crock or jar. However, in order to secure a positive locking of the end t2 of the hoop I bend the eye or member d at an angle in respect toits shankd',

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains that modications may be made in details without departing'from the spirit and scope ot' same. Hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction aud arrangement of parts hereinbefore described; but,

Having described the nature and object of the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a device such as described, the combination of a coil-spring, a hoop or band having one end attached to said coil-spring, near one end thereof and an eye or member secured to the opposite end of the coil-spring and arranged to frictionally engage the free end of the hoop,^substantially as described.

2. A device of the character stated comprising a coil-spring, loops disposed endwise of the spring and having hook-like terminals which engage the coils ofthe spring, and a hoop or band the ends of which are engaged
