SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,505, dated September 22, 1903.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE 0. PETER- soN, a citizen of the. United States, residing at Ogden, in the county of Boone and State and will be practically impossible to unseal the same without disclosing that the envelop has been tampered with,
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter made clearly apparent, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 shows a blank from which my improved envelop is formed. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail View of the blank shown in Fig. 2 in the process of being folded, so that the various parts thereof will each be disposed in its respective operative position. Fig. 6 shows a transverse section of Fig. 2, taken on or near the median line thereof. Fig. 4 is a similar view to that presented in Fig. 3, showing one of the flaps folded parallel with a contiguous part of the body of the envelop. Fig. 5 is a similar view to that presented in Fig. 4, indicating a further progress in the folding of the securingflap, while Fig. 6 shows a transverse central section of the completed envelop. Fig. 7 shows a slightlymodified form of construction for the flap of the envelop.
In order to conveniently refer to the various details of .my invention and cooperating accessories deemed necessary in carrying out my invention, numerals will be employed, the same numeral referring to a similar part throughout the several views.
Referring to the numerals on the drawings, 1 indicates the'front or main body portionof the envelop, which is provided with the end sections 2 and 3,preferably of triangular form,
though the points thereof may be variously shaped, as will be understood. The body portion 1 is also provided with the edge eXtension 4, which comprises the flap of the finished envelop, which is left open, as is common, until it is desired to seal or close the same for mailing.
Upon the opposite side of the body-section from that occupied by the flap 4 I provide the member 5, having the anchoring -terminal divided into the folding-flap sections 6 and 7,
said sections being designated by dotted lines, said lines indicating where said anchoringflaps are to be folded, as more fully shown in Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6. r
The flap-section 6, it will be understood, is
to be gummed upon both sides, while the sec-. 7, tion 7 is to be gummed only upon its inner surface, and it is therefore obvious that by dampening said gu mmed surfaces the sections may be folded down upon each other and upon a contiguous part of the section 5, thereby disposing said parts in their respective opera- 7 5 whereby its free edge will be disposed imme- 8o diately above and in contact with the gummed surface of the section 6, when by folding down the section 7 the flap is securely engaged between said members. It Will of course be understood that the entire free edges of the flapsections 4 and 5 may be gummed upon their inner sides, whereby when said parts are folded down upon a contiguous part or edges of the sections 2 and 3 the latter will be reliably engaged and held in place, thereby com- 9 pletely sealing the envelop. By interposing the free edge of the flap 4between the gummed surfaces of the sections 6 and 7 it will-be next to impossible to unseal the envelop after it has been closed, especially since both surfaces of the section6 are gummed. ,In some instances I prefer to form the slight extension or tongue 8 upon the flap 4, said flap being made of slightly shorter length, whereby said tongue 8 may be inserted through a suitable IOO slit provided in a contiguous part of the section 6, thus enabling said tongue to protrude entirely through said slit, and thereby rest between the inner side of said section and a contiguous part of the gunnned surface of the member 5.
In Fig. 7 I have shown the tongue 8 as being formed upon the free edge of the flap-section 4:, it being obvious that a suitable slit may be readily formed in the section 6 to receive the same, and I therefore deem it unnecessary to illustrate the exact location of said slit.
