This invention relates to tobacco-pipes; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the bowl of the pipe, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. i
A is the bowl of a tobacco-pipe of any approved make.
B is a screw-threaded metal ring secured around the outside of the rim of the bowl.
0 is a hollow cap or cover which is screwed onto the ring B after the pipe has been filled with tobacco and lighted.
D is a downwardly-projecting spring-chamber suspended from the center portion of the top of thecap O. V
E is a perforated extinguishing-plate provided with a stem e, which slides vertically in the chamber D, and d is a spring arranged in the said chamber around the stem e. F is a button of non-heat-conducting material secured to the top of the stem 6. The spring is arranged between the bottom a of the said chamber and the button F, and it normally holds the perforated plate E in a raised position clear of the tobacco in the pipe.
The capO is provided with holes f for the a few seconds without drawing airthrough the pipe.
What I claim is- The combination, with the bowl of a to bacco-pipe, and an externally-screw-threaded ring secured around its rim; of a removable perforated capsorewing on the said ring and provided with a chamber depending from its upper portion, an extinguishing-plate provided with a stem slidable in the said chamber, a finger-button at the upper end of the said stem, and a spring arranged in the said chamber between the bottom thereof and the said button and normally supporting the said extinguishing-plate, the top of the said cap operating as a stop for the said button to strike against when depressed, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof .I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
