HEINRICH ,YKOPPERS, or OARNAP, NEAR ESSEN, GERMANY.
REG EN ERATIVE COKE-OVEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 738,918, dated September 15, 1903.-
Application filed December 28, 1901. Serial No. 87,641. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concerni- Be it known that I, HEINRICH KOPPERS,GOking engineer, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Oarnap, near Essen, in the German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Regenerative Coke-Ovens with Separate Distribution of Gas and Air to the Heating-Flues, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to regenerative cokeovens', the construction of which is improved in such a manner that a separate distribution of gas and air to the heating-fines is obtained and that the nozzles for the supply of the air :5 are situated in such ,a manner that they do not come in contact with the flames.
In the accompanying drawings the improved regenerative coke-oven is shown in Figure l in a vertical section, the left half of the drawing being a section on line A B of Fig. 2, showing a coking-chamber, and the right half being a section on lineO D of Fig. 2, showing the arrangement of the heatingfiues. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on lineE F of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows in vertical section,.on
a larger scale, the bottom of a heating-flue with the nozzles; and Fig. 4 shows in vertical section, on a larger scale, the cover-plate of a heating-flue.
In the regenerative coke-oven the cokingchambers 1 and the heating-dues 2 are arranged, as usual, above the air-regenerators 3 and the gas-regenerators 4, respectively. Below the bottom of the coking-chambersl 3 5 the air-distributing channels 5 are arranged,
which communicate, by means of vertical ,channels 6,with the air-regenerators 3. Below the heating-fines 2 the gas-distributing channels 7 are situated, which are connected with the gas-regenerators 4 by means of vertical channels 8. The gas-distributing channels 7 communicate with the heating fiues 2 by means of vertical borings in the center of the bottom of the heating-fines, into which openings removable nozzles 9 are inserted, which may suitably have a conical form. The upper end of these nozzles 9 project slightly from' the upper surface of the bottom of the heating-flue.
The air-distributing channels 5 communicate with the heating-fines 2 by means of horizontal nozzles 10, which are inserted into horizontal borings of the side walls 11 of the heating-flues 2. In these side walls 11 recesses 2 are arranged at the place where the nozzles 10 0f the air-distributing channels are situated, so that these nozzles 10 stand back from the heating-fines 2'.
Above the heating-Hues 2 the horizontal flue 13 for the gases of combustionis situated, as usual, which communicates with the several heating-fines 2 by vertical openings 14. Vertically aboveeach heating-flue 2 an opening 15 is provided in the top wall 16 of the oven, which opening is closed by a removable cover-plate 17.
The coking chambers 1 have the usual charge-ports 18 for the coals.
The nozzles 9 on the bottom of the heatingflues 2 can be inspected from outside the oven after the cover-plates 17, closing the openings 15 in the top wall 16, have been removed, as the nozzles 9 stand perpendicularly below said openings 15. Thus it is possible to remove these nozzles 9 by means of long iron tongs or rods from outside the oven and replace the same by fresh nozzles, if required.
The separate distribution of gas and air to the heating-fines is obtained as follows: The heating-gases mount from the gas-regenerators 4 through the vertical channels 8 to the gas-distributing channels 7- below the heating-flues and flow from here through the nozzles 9 into the heating-fines 2. The air -for combustion is supplied from the air-rebustion flowthrough-the openings 14 into the horizontal flue 13 and are thence guided to the air and gas regenerators 4 or to the chimney, as required.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim by Letters Patent is-- Improvement in regenerative coke-ovens comprising in combination with the usual coking-chambers and the h'eating-flues, gasregenerators and air-regenerators below said coking-chambers and heating-fines, gas-distributing channels below the bottom of the horizontal borings, openings in the top wall of the oven above the gas-channels at the upper end of the heating-fines and removable cover-plates closing said openings in the top wall of the oven, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HEINRICH KOPPERS.
