PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT D. H. ANDERSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
OIL-E XTRACTING DEVICE.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 738,750, dated September 15, 1903.
Application filed February 2, 1903 Serial No. 141,463. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT D. H. ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residingat Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Oil-Extracting Device, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in I the extraction of oil from exhaust-steam; and
the object of my improvement is to furnish pure dry steam for heating systemsand steam free from oil forheatingfeed-water for boilers. I attain the results desired by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
The drawing is a sectional view showing the construction of the entire apparatus in. full a detail.
striking-this cone-shaped center gives it a swirling motion, which causes the oil and condensation to be flung against the under surface of the upper baffle-plate U through the agency of centrifugal force. It is held against and caused to traverse along this surface to the trough WV at the lower edge of the baffleplate U by this same force. WVhen the oil and condensation reach this point, they are caught in the trough W,from whence they are drained out through the upper series of drain-pipes Y to the lower trough X. They are drained from this lower trough X through the lower series of pipes Y to the bottom of the extractor and are then drained out through the drain mpipeZ. It is necessary to place a trap or gooseneck somewhere in the line to keep the steam from escaping through it. The
caped separation therefrom on its contact with the upper baffle-plate will be deposited on the lower baffle-plate V and conveyed to thelower oil-trough X, and from thence it follows the course as described above. After the steam leaves the lower baffle-plateit passes between the upper trough W and the lower trough X and then passes up over the top of the mechanism and out through the flange-opening at the top.
The entire mechanism is held in position by the series of stud-bolts a a with nuts and taper washers. (Plainly shown in the draw- What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an oil and condensation extracting device, the combination with the casing, the drain-pipe, Z, the inlet-pipe, b, the upper baffle-plate, U, the oil-trough, W,and the upper series of drain-pipes, Y, of the lower baffleplate, V, the oil-trough, X, and the lower series of drain-pipes, Y, substantially as set forth.
2. In an oil and condensation extracting device, the combination with the casing, the
drain-pipe, Z, the inlet-pipe, b, the upper baffle-plate, U, the oil-trough, W, the upper series of drain-pipes, Y, the lower baffle-plate, V, the oil-trough, X, and the lower series of drain-pipes, Y, of the series of stud-bolts, a, a, and their nuts and taper washers, as and for the purpose shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
