BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 738,467, dated September 8, 1903.

Beit known that I, GEORGE MORRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Closures, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bottle-closures; and the object of the invention is to provide a bottle which when the original seal is once broken may not be refilled without detection readily being had.
Briefly described, my invention resides in the particular construction of the bottle-neck, this neck being constructed and weakened at a desired point, so that it may be readily broken when desired. The insideof the neck is of a particular configuration, whereby the plurality of Stoppers, composed of different materials and connected together, are held securely within the neck, one of these .stoppers lying at a point below the weakened point of the neck. All of this construction will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views,in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view through a part of a bottle constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of the bottleneck detached from the bottle. Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view through the upper portion of the bottle with the neck broken away.
In the accompanying drawings, l indicates the body of the bottle, which is constructed centrally of its top with a neck, the lower portion 2 of which is of a substantially frustoconical form, and the portion 3 of which, directly above the portion 2, is of a flaring or inverted-frusto-conical form, and the hollow portionv 4, directly above the portion 3, is of a form similar to the portion 2, the upper end 5 of the neck having an interior wall vertical for a short distance, as indicated at 6. The
chamber within the neck inclosed by the portions 4 and 5 of the neck is adapted to receive the filling of cement or other like substance 7, while in the chamber inclosed by portion 3 of the neck there is, placed a stopper 8, composed of cord or like material, and an additional or supplemental cork 9 is adapted to be forced into the contracted opening on the neck and lie within the frusto-conical portion 2 thereof. The Stoppers 8 and 9 carry a pin lO, preferably provided with the curved or hooked upper end l1, whereby the cement or like material when filled into the bottle-neck on top ot the stopper 8 will firmly secure the Stoppers together. i
In operation after the bottle has been filled the stopper 9 is compressed, so as to be forced into the lower portion of the neck, where it is held by the stopper 8. The cement is filled into the upper portion of the neck and prevents the removal of the stopper, which removal can only be had by breaking the neck at the weakened portion or point 12. When the neck is broken at this point, the upper portion of the neck is employed to 4withdraw the stopper 9 from the bottle and for sealing the bottle until the contents are used, and the original stopper may be placed in the portion 2 of the neck.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bottle-closure comprising a bottle having a neck, the base 2 of which is of a frusto-conical shape merging into an inverted-frustoconical portion 3 which in turn merges into a frusto-conical portion 4 having an open beaded end 5, combined with Stoppers 8 and 9 fitted within and conforming respectively to the shapes of said frustoconical portions 2 and 3, and cement filling in said frusto-conical portion Ll, and a pin with head thereon seated in said stopper 9, its shank portion passing through said stopper 8 and having its outer end curved and embedded in said cement filling, as set forth.
