SEWING-MACHINE CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 737,658, dated September 1, 1903.
Application filed May 10, 1902. Serial No. 106,779. (No model.)
T0 atZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAMPnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illi nois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sewing-machine cabinets in which a platform has a hinge or pivotal connection with a stationary portion of the cabinet and a connection is formed between the platform and cover, so that the opening and closing movements of the cover will raise and lower the platform,
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved sewing-machine cabinet with the cover open. Fig. 2 is a lengthwise section. Figs. 3 and I are transverse sections.
The woodwork of the cabinet comprises the top 1, frame 2, cover 3, ends 4, back 5, apron 6, platform 7, and platform extension 8, joined together in the usual manner. The cover has a hinge connection with the frame, and the platform has a hinge connection with the frame, and to the platform is hinged the extension. The apron has a hinge connection with the under face of the top. The platform has an opening 9 to receive the sewing-machine head. A bar 10 is secured to the under face of the platform and spans the opening 9 and has a perforated extension 11. A grooved roller 12 is supported by the top by the brackets 13. A flexible band or chain has a connection with the extension 11 and passes over the roller and its other end connected to the cover at the point 14. The end of the band connected to the extension is made adjustable. Alink 15 has a pivotal connection with the bar 10 at one end, and
- its other end has a pivotal connection with the bracket 16, secured to the inner face of the apron.
Figs. 1, 2, and 3 show the platform in its raised position, the cover open, and the apron moved under the top. By closing the cover the parts are moved into the positions shown at Fig. 4. The link connection between the bar 10 and apron will move the apron as the platform is moved in order that the operator may have room in which to work the treadle. The flexible connection between the cover and arm passes over the projection 17, extending from the bracket supporting the roller, which holds the flexible connection on the roller during the swinging movements of the platform. A spring 18, connected to the platform, bears against the platform extension and holds it in proper position to be elevated.
I claim as my invention- In a device of the character described the combination of a table-top having an opening therein, a cover hinged to said top at one side, a platform hinged to said top at the front edge of the opening, an arm secured to the platform and extending beyond it to the rear of the table and beneath the latter when the platform is raised flush with the table-top, a pulley supported by the tabletop adjacent the free extremity of the arm when the latter is in its raised position, a flexible connection between said free extremity of the arm and said cover and passing over said pulley, and an arm on the pulley arranged to guide the connection and prevent the latter from running off the pulley.
