FRANK J. WALKER, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
CASH-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 737,049, dated August 25, 1903.
Application filed my 7, 1902. Serial No. 114,672. (No model-l To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK J. WALKER, of Savannah, in the county of Ohatham and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cash-Checks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and'use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cash-checks," being designed more particularly for use in mercantile establishments and the like where the salesman or clerk is not permitted to receive or handle the cash, but in lieu thereof hands a check to the purchaser indicating the amount to be paid the cashier.
In carrying out my invention I provide a ticket having a series of tabs or ears around its edge, the body of said ticket being scored or perforated at the base of each of said tabs or .ears, whereby the latter may be readily detached. Each tab or car has printed thereon a figure or number indicating certain denominations of currency, said numbers corresponding with a series of numbers printed on said ticket inside said scored or perforated line in spaces coincident with said tabs. In practice the amount of the purchase is indicated by tearing off the tabs bearing the numbers aggregating the total of the desired amount. z
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of my improved cash-check. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slight modification. Fig. 3 is a detail view.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates acard or ticket provided with a series of circumferential tabs 11, separated from each other byradial slits 12. Said card or ticket is scored or perforated along the line 13, whereby said tabs or cars may be readily detached from the body portion of said ticket. Spaces 14 are formed on the body of ticket 10 by means of a printed line 15, parallel with the scored or perforated line 13 and radial lines 16, the latter being, in effect, continuations of the radial slits 12. Each tab is provided with a figure or number designating different denominations of currency, said figures or numbers being duplicated in the spaces 14, the number in each space corresponding to the number on the adjoining tab. On the body of the ticket is printed the-necessary directions, &c., and the figures on the tabs are preferably printed in different-colored ink from the rest of the check orticket.
In practice when a purchase has been made the clerk or salesman tears off the tabs bear.- ing numbers amounting to or aggregating the amount of the purchase and the check is then handed to the purchaser. The cashier readily estimates the amount of purchase at a glance or by adding together the figures in the spaces 14. adjoining the points where the tabs have been detached. For instance, assuming the 'purchaseto have amounted to four dollars and ten cents, the tabs on which the $4. and .10 are printed are detached by the clerk or salesman, as illustrated in Fig, 3.
The cashier upon examining the check per-' ceives at once what tabs have been detached and if more than one accordingly adds the numbers in the spaces 19, thereby ascertaining the amount to be charged.
The advantages of my improved cash-check are at once apparentto those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
It will be particularly observed that While I have illustrated and described a circular check or ticket the shape thereof may be varied at will Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim as my invention 1. A cash-check comprising a central body portion, and a series of detachable tabs surrounding the same, said body portion having numbered spaces and arranged in juxtapost tion to said tabs, the latter being also provided with numbers corresponding with those of said spaces, as set forth.
2. A cash-check comprising a circular ticket having a series of radially-arranged numbered spaces, and provided with a series of radiallyarranged detachable tabs in juxtaposition with said spaces and having numbers corre sponding to said former numbers, whereby values are indicated by detaching one or more of said tabs, as set forth.
3. A cash-check comprising a ticket having a series of radial tabs separated from the body portion bya scored orperfoi'ated line and sepspecification in the presence of two subscribarated from each other by radial slits, a series ing Witnesses. of radial spaces printed on said ticket inside FRANK T TAT KFR said perforated line in juxtaposition with said J J 5 tabs, and corresponding figures printed on said tabs and in said spaces, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this WVitnesses:
SIQ. GARDNER, SAMUEL L. GERST.
