IMPROVEMENT IN INDICATORS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,992, dated May 11, 1875; application filed October 12, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FAYETTE M. AMs- DEN, of Middleborough, county of Plymouth, State of Massachusetts, and MARCUS E. AMS- DEN, of Clinton, in the countyof Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Indicators, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l isa front elevation of our improved ticket; Fig. 2, a View of the-interior card, and Fig. 3 of the exterior or back card.

Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the difl'erent figures of the drawing.

Our invention relates to that class of price tickets or labels which are provided with means for changing the figures to adapt the same ticket to a variety of articles; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character than is now in ordinary use.

In Fig. 1 of the drawing, A is the front card, h avin g the word cents printed on its face, and provided with the metallic point D. The card B, Fig. 2, has the ordinals from 1 to 5 printed around the edge upon one side, and between the figures there are five elongated openings, G, and the card 0, Fig. 3, has the digits printed upon one side around its edge. All of the cards are united by an eyelet-ring or rivet at E, loosely inserted in the rear and central cards, to permit them to be revolved thereon, the card B being arranged in the center, and the card C at the back, in such a manner that the figures on them will show through the aperture F in the front card A.

It will be obvious that when the cards are united, as described, if the card 13 is turned so that, for instance, its figure 5 will show through the aperture F, the adjoining aperture Gin the card B will permit one of the figures on the rear card C to be seen, so that now if the rear card is turned until the figure 9 is shown, the ticket will indicate 95 cents, as seen in Fig. 1. It'desired, a projection may be formed on the face card above the aperture F, and the word price printed above.

It will be obvious that a great variety of combinations and changes in the figures can be made by means of the two cards B C, con structed and arranged as shown; also, that the point D will afford a ready means of supporting the ticket, especially on fruit-stands, where the point can be easily inserted without injury to the article required to be labeled.

Having thus explained our invention, what we claim is- The card B, containing the ordinnls and slots G, arranged between and in combination with the card C, marked with the digits, and

card A, provided with the opening F and tine D, all operating as and for the purpose set forth.
