'ro ALL'WHOM IT MAY o'ononnm Be it known that I, ZALMON TAYLOR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Drawer-Truss and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same,.reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to a new and improved truss for obtaining pressure on ruptures on the human body, whereby the inconveniences and objectionable features of the ordinary spring-truss are overcome; and the invention-consists in obtaining the pressure necessary to reduce the rupture and keep the parts in place by a rupture-pad, which is'hcld and supported by the drawers or otherwise, the necessary elasticity being obtained from the suspenders, the truss-strap being attached to the pantaloons, or by an elastic strap, attached at both ends to the drawers, and supported by the hips of the wearer, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The drawing represents the former arrangement.

A represents the drawers. B is the rupture or hernia-pad, and C represents the strap in which it is confined. D represents the suspenders, which are attached to the pantaloons, with the strap 0 connected therewith, as seen in the drawing. The pad may be'formed of cork, wood, or any other suitable material, and it is coniined in a pocket in the strap 0. Thisstrap is attached to thedrawers, nearthe crotch of the wearer, and the pochetand pad are placed so as to correspond with the rupture. Lateral'bands or cords may be attached to the strap G, and to thedrawers, and, if necessary, may pass. round or partially round the body of the wearer, forthe purpose of securing a proper adjustment of the .pad, but in ordinary cases the pad can be properly adjusted without any such assistance. When the pad is worn by either males or females, the strap O maybe made elastic, so that it would draw fromthe top or waistband oi the drawers, which would be supported from the hips oi' the wearer.

This truss may be supported, without the drawers, from a belt around'tho waist, in which case the strap 0 would pass between the legs and be attached to the belt at he back. :The pad may be attached directly to the drawers, or confined in a pocket in the drawers or parts of drawers, if desired, but I prefer to use the strap. The pad will be formed so that it'will PlOjeCtflOlll the inner side of the strap, and so that when the strap is drawn upward by the suspenders ore belt, or by any other means, the tendencywill be to press the pad against the body, and the size of the pad, and the tension and elasticity required will be determined by the pressure necessary to produce the desired effect.

i The advantages of this arrangemcntare many, not the least of which is the slight expense attending it when compared with the erdinary'steel-spring truss. The ease with which it is worn is its chief. recommendation, The common steel trnss is a constant source of annoyance and irritation to the wearer, as all who have used them will testify, while with my truss there is no pressure on the body, except where it is necessary, and

it is worn without the least inconvenience, while the adjustment is keptporfect with much less difficulty than that of the common steel truss.

Having thus describedmy invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt- The strap 0, 01: its equivalent, (when the pad is arranged therein, substantially as and'for the purpose set fortln) whether the same is elastic or non-elastic.
