TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONGERN:
Be it known that I, NDREW J. PRESCOTT, of Cntuwisso, in the county of Columbia, in the Stute of Penn Sylvania, have invented o. new and useful Tool, for the' purpose of cutting grooves in the holes of flue-sheets, by means of .which grooves the dues ure better secured to the sheets, and for other vlike purposes; und I do hereby decla-re that the following is a. full, oleur, and exoctrdescription of the construction and operation of the some. y
A is o. slottedmnndie ,"of iron, steel, or other suitable nmterinl, one end being ot' proper size'to fit the holes which are to be grooved, :md hovingu shoulder,to rest against the face ofthe sheet, which serves to guide the. tool. B is n movnhle cutter, having a. projection nt a, for cutting u groove of thedesired form. This cutter is placed in the groove `in the mandrel, und is there pivoted by means of m pin, e. The hole in the mandrel, through which this pinpasscs, is elongated, as represented. The object in having this hole mode in this way is to accommodate 'thecuttcr to the size of the hole in which the groove is to be cut, mid also to assist in regu-V lutin` the depth ofthe groove.' C represents 'n spring, which.serves to press outward the'onter end of the cutter. D represents `a. feed-nut with o Haring mouth, which tits over the outer end of the cutterfshaft, und when screwed down on the uinndrel, throws out the projecting point (t of the cutter.
No. 1 is a. stop-screw, 'which may be set to gauge the cutter to any desired depth of groove. No. is pivot, which' serves to throw the cutting-point or projection a outward, and adn-pts it to slight variations .in the size of holes.' A d* Having thus fully' described my invention, what I claim es new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl. The cutter-shaft B, provided with the cutting projectiona, pivotcd ino. slot in the mandrel, through an elongated hole,-e.nd adjusted in one direction by means of the pivot-screw 2, substantially as herein set forth forth@ purpose specified.
2. The feed-nut D, provided with o; daring mouth, in combination with the stopscre\v I, mandrel A, und the cutter-shaft B, constructed substantially as and usedfor the purpose set fortlr` v ANDREW J. PRESCOTT.
