SPEGIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,427', dated' August 18, 1903.
Appiictnoii inea reentry 6,1903. SeritlNo 142156. (No model.)
i in the county of Orange, State of California,
have invented certain nevi7` and useful Improvements in Footstools; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others Skilled in the art to which` it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to footstools; and it has for its object to provide a stool in which may be held a body of hot water, so that one may `warm his feet by placing them upon the stool, the specific object of the invention being to provide a construction wherein the heat will be retained a maximum length of time and in which the heating medium may be changed from time to time as desired.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be understood from the following description.
t In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which' like numerals of reference indicate similar `parts in the seva stool embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the stool. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a portion of the stool with one corner broken away to show thearrangement of the filling-opening to Fig. 2 and illustrating a modification.
for the hollow wall. Fig. 4 is a view similar Fig. 5 is a horizontal section through the stool.
Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1,12, and 3 thereof, there is shown a stool comprising a metallic tank having double side and end walls 5 and 6, a bottom 7, and a top8, the rear side walls being somewhat higher than the frontside walls,
. so that the top is slanted. The side and end walls are intercommunicating, so that there 1s formed a continuous outer chamber' 9, sur# A feed-open` rounding an inner 'chamber 10. ing 11 is provided for the outer chamber 9, through which hot water may be fed to the chamber, and which opening has a screwclosure, theinner chamber 10 having also a filling-opening 12, provided with a screwsponding to the similar walls of the tank, and
this casing has a bottom 16, which is hinged thereto and is provided with suitable catches 17 ,to hold it in closed position, this bottom serving as a support for the tank. At the upper land lower edges of the casing are beads 18, which project inwardly of the casing and within 4the inclosure of which the tank is snugly fitted and by which the tank is held in spaced relation to the side and end walls ofthe casing to receive a illing 19 of raw cotton or other suitable insulating material. The outer Wooden casing is provided with a covering 20 of carpet, as is also the top of the tank, the covering 21 of the top being secured to the rear and side edges of the cas ing'and extending loosely over the tank, so that the feet may be placed upon the tank and beneath the covering to Warm them.
To supply heat, hot water is placed in the outer chamber 9,7which heats the air in the chamber 10 and from which the heat is radiated by the topof the chamber, and it'will be understood that the inner chamber l0 may also have a filling of water, if desired, and that, if wished, the outer chamber 9 may be left empty to form an air-jacket.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings the walls of the tank are not formed double; but the tank is provided with a casing the same as that above described.
In practice other modifications of the invention may be made and any suitable materials and proportions may be used for the various parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is In a foot-warming stoo1,1the combination with a tank including inner and outerchambers having separate filling-openings provided with closures, of an open-topped casing in which the tank is removably received and with the upper edge of which the tankv In testimony whereof afIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.

is flush, said casing being spaced from the tank between its upper and lower edges, a ap attached to the casing at the three sides thereof and extending loosely over the tank, 5 a bottom hinged to the casing and on which Witnesses:
the tank is supported and a latch for the J. N. GARDimR,v v hinged bottom. l EMILY H. TRUsOoTT.
