COOLER.
, citizen of the United States residin at Abilene, in the county of Dickinson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coolers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification My invention relates to coolers and more particularly to a device for household use in localities where ice cannot be procured; the object of my invention being to provide means for producing a film of water in frontof suitable supports, upon which the articles to be cooled are placed, so that air passing through the film of Water will be cooled and thereby cool the articles on the support. In accomplishing this object, 1
have provided the improved details of struc' ture hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of a cooler constructed according to my invention, part of the curtain covering being broken away. Fig. 11 is a longitudinal vertical section through the upper part of the cooler and tank. Fig. III is a transverse vertical sect-ion of same, showing the tank in end elevation.
Referring more in detail to the parts 1 designates a stand having corner posts 2 which support" shelves preferably sup orted in a suitable basin or receptacle 4. n the top of the stand 1, is a pan 5 having fiarin sides 6, over which is hung a curtain 7, w 'ich is preferably of loose woven .fabric so that it will absorb water and permit the passage of air therethrough. The upper end of the curtain preferably extends entirely around the pan and is hung therein sothat it may touch the bottom thereof, the lower end being suspended within the basin 4. Supported within the pan 5 is a tank 8 drical and supported on legs 9. Within one end of tank 8, near the lower edge thereof,

so that it Will come below the water line in the pan, is an aperture 10, and opening through the end of the tank at about the same level as the aperture 10, is a tube 11 which extends to and opens into the upper portion of the tank. Extending through the top of the tank is a tube 1:2, having a tunnel 13 at the top and having anopen end 14 adapted for discharging at, the bottom of the tank.
In using the device, the articles to be cooled are placed on the stand shelves and the curtain hung in place, as partially illustrated in Fig. I. The tank is filled through the funnel 13, so that the water is discharged at the bottom of the tanh and rises therein, forcing the air to the top and thence down- Wardly through the tube 11 to the outlet below the Water line of the pan. Water escaping through aperture 10 in the tank partially fills the pan and is taken up by the curtain fabric in the same manner an on dinary Wick, passing down through the terial in front of the shelves, ,so'that the liquid that does not evaporate during the descent, is caught in the basin.
With the device located in open air, air passing through the water soaked curtain becomes cooled and cools-the articles supported on the shelves.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is The combination with a stand, having shelves, of a pan mounted on said stand over the shelves, a curtain hung over the stand and having its upper end located within the pan, a tank seated on the bottom of the pan, one
end of the tank having an opening therein within the pan, and a tube having a passage of the same diameter as the opening, located within the tank, the lower end of the tube being projected through the end of said tank level with the opening and the upper end of the tube opening into the upper part of said tank. In testimon whereof I afiix my signature two witnesses.
