My invention relates to refrigeration and has for its object to provide a new and efficient refrigerator in which the evaporation of fluids is the means for keeping the refrigerator with the outer door open cool.
A further object is to provide an eiiicient home or camp refrigerator which is made of economical materials and which will keep any article cool and sweet a greater period of time than has heretofore been accomplished.
A still further object is to provide an iceless refrigerator which has two compartments therein, one which will be moist and will keep vegetables cool, fresh and crisp, and one l5 which will keep articles dry, yet will keep them cool and fresh. p
A still further object is to provide an evaporization refrigerator within a suitable cabinet so that it can be used in the kitchen and will not be unsightly and will still be efiicient.
A still further object is to provide a cabinet for the refrigerator which will cause a draft of air to be upward around the cooling bag and which will increase the evaporation around said bag, thereby increasing the degrecs of cold within the food compartment.
rIhese and many other objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed ont in the appended claim.
In the drawings in which I have shown the best and most preferred manner of building my invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my refrigerator. Figure 2 is a front view of the refrigerator with the doors open showing the interior. Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1. Figure 4 is a side view of the cooler bag used in the refrigerator.
In the drawings I have shown the cabinet in which my cooler bag is used as A. A cover B is hingedly secured on the top thereof and has the central portion thereof made of spaced apart lattices or slats 1 so that a person looking from the front or top of the refrigcrator could not look down into it and so that there would be a free circulation of air therethrough.
A door D is provided in the front of the refrigerator suitably hinged and provided with a catch 2 to hold it shut when desired. A hinged door C isprovided in the lower side of the front of the refrigerator through which a pan or other receptacle can be placed to catch any water which might be spilled or drip from the cooling bag.
Supporting brackets 3 are provided on the inner faces of the front and back of the said cabinet A, in which supporting rods 4 and 4 are suspended. A cooling bag F is made of canvasor some material from which water y will slowly seep but which will hold the liquid after it has become soaked with but little seepage therefromand with agreat deal of evaporation from the surface thereof. The said bag hastwo seams 5 and 5a sewed in the upper edges thereof and through which seams the supportingrods 4 and 4 are passed holding the bag in vertical position within the cabinet A. The said bag is rectangular in form, with spaced apart walls 7 and 8, and has an opening in the front side at 6, making the bag in a box-shaped receptacle with five walls closed and the sixth forming an opening 6 in which a metal food-holding casing 9 is carried. The said casing 9 hasa flange 9 on the front side thereof which is secured to the front side of the bag F and which forms a rigid support for the front of the said casing and bag. The top end of the said casing 9 is made concave, as shown at 25 in Figure 3. The said casing 9 is made in two compartments 10 and 11 having a dividing wall 12 between said compartments. A door 13 is hingedly attached to the said casing 9,having a concave recess 14 in the front sidethereof in. which a separate water container 15 is suspended. The said water container 15 is made of similar material to that used in the bag F and has seams 16 sewed partially across it horizontally to hold the sides nearer together when it is filled with water. A 'filling plug 17 is provided in the top end through which Water may be poured to fill the bag and from which water may be poured to clean the .bag or to be used for drinking Water. The said compartment 10 in the casing 9 has holes 18 cut in its side Walls through Which moist air Will pass from the Walls of the bag F to the interior of the said compartment 10. The compartment 11 will be shut off from the Walls of the said bag F so that the interior of the said compartment will be cold but dry. Shelves 19 may be placed Within the compartment 11 on brackets 20 provided on the side Walls thereof. Locking lugs 26 are provided on the vfront` side of the said casing 9 to lock the door'V shut when necessary. Sea-ms 21 will be sewed up the sides of the said bag F to keep the Walls of the said bag from bulging too much when the bagis filled with Water, and a `drainage tap 22 is provided in one side Wall of the said bag 'from which the Water may be drained for drinking purposes or to clean the bag. A ventilator pipe 23 is provided in the bot; tom of the compartment 11 of the said cass ing 9 to allow air to enter the said compartiment from the bottom when it is desired to ventilate the-said comparment and a cork 27 is provided to vclose said pipe 23 when de-- sired. jf
Vhen it isdesired to use the refrigerator on a camping trip or an automobile trip,the Water is'draine'd from the bag F through the plug 22 and the bag' lifted from the cabi#4 net A. Suitable brackets may then be attached 'to the sai-d bag F and the bag' laid upon its side and used as an automobile running board refrigerator. In this use the bag F Would provide coldv drinking Water and fresh food for the traveler lor camper. I/Vhen using as anautomobile refrigerator the 4door becomes the-lid. 'Ihe upper end of the said bag F is made to lit the concave end 'of the said 'casing 9 'so Athat When Water is drained from the bag there will still be Water 'on top of the said casing.
Having thus described my invention I de- Y sire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:
`In a refrigerator the combination of a cab,- inet; a cooling Water bag suspended in said cabinet; a casing in saidbag having metal Walls, said bag surrounding said casing on the top,y bottom and three sides, said casing* being divided into two separated'-,compartlnents; ka lventilator pipe in the lower of said compartments; means to -closer said pipe when desired; holes in the sides of said upper compartment to allow passage of moist air therethrough; a 'door 'for said casing hingedly secured thereto;I means to lock said door 'in closed position; a concave `depress sion in said door; a Water bag suspended in said door; a llatticed top for said `cabinet hingedly secured thereto and a door for said cabinet hingedly secured 'thereto with means for locking said door when it is closed.
