PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON IIAMBURGER, OF NEW YORK, Y., ASSIGNOR TO HAMBURGER & CO., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF VIRGINIA. V
MAGIC LANTERN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,092, dated August 11, 1903. Application filed February 11, 1903. Serial No. 142,945. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, SIMON HAMBURGER, a
citizen of the United States, residing in New- York, borough of Manhattan, and State of New York, have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Magic Lanterns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved lantern of that class which is used by children and in which the sheet-metal body and the disadvantages of the same are dispensed with and a body 'of non-conductive material substituted; and for this purpose the invention consists of a magic lantern the body of which is made of tubular shape and open at the upper and lower ends and formed of ornamental tile, enameled steel, or similar vitreous material, the lower open end being supported on the lantern or other source of light, while on the upper open end is placed the chimney for conducting off the products of combustion.
This invention consists, further, of a magic lantern the body of which is made of tubular shape and provided in its lower part with a a side elevation of my improved magic lantern; and Fig. 2 is a verticallongitudinal section of the same, drawn on a larger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of my improved magic lantermthe same being made of tubular shape and preferably of vitrified material-such as claytile, enameled steel, &c;-said body being open at the upper and lower ends and provided at its lower part with a lens-tube B. The tubular body A is provided with a metal base G, having a circular opening in which is inserted the burner-tube. The base 0 is supported on a gallery 0, that is attached to the burner of the lamp D or other source of light, as shown in Fig. 1. To the upper end of the tubular body A is applied a top H, provided with an opening and flange on which the uptake or chimney E rests, by which the gases of combustion produced by the lamp or other source of light are conducted away. In line with the lens-tube B is supported a second lens-tube F, which is attached to the guide-frame Gfor the slides, said guide-frame being attached to an upright post G. This post G is supported on the base L of the magic lantern in such a manner that the center of the flame, lens-tube 13, opening in the upright standard G, center of the slide-guide frame, and second lens-tube F are all in one axial line 1 1, as shown in Fig. 2.
The improved magic lantern described has the advantage that the body being made of a non-conductor of heat is not liable to become heated and subject to sweating as the magic lanterns heretofore in use, and can therefore be used in a neater and cleaner manner by children for exhibiting their slide-pictures.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a magic lantern, the conibinationpvith an upright tubular body open at its ends, and made of vitrified material, of a lamp, a gallery on said lamp for the lower open end of the tubular body for supporting the same, and a chimney on the upper open end of said tubular body, substantially as set forth.
2. In a magiclantern, the combinatiomwith a tubular body open at its ends and made of vitrified material, of a lamp, a gallery on said lamp for the lower open end of the tubular body for supporting the same, a chimney on the upper open end of the tubular body, alenstube at the lower part of the body, a second lens-tube in line with the first lens-tube, a slide-guideway between the first and second lens-tubes, and an upright standard for supporting the guideway and the second lenstube, substantially as set forth.
3. In amagic lantern, the combinatiomwith an upright tubular body open at its ends and made of vitrified material, asheet-metal bottom for the lower open end of the body and provided with an opening, and a sheet-metal top for the upper open end of the body also provided with an opening, of a lamp, a gallery on said lamp for supporting the sheet-metal bottom and tubular body of vitrified material,
ICO
and a chimney for the sheet-1netal top, substantially as set forth.
4. In amagiolantern, the combination,With an upright tubular body open at its ends and made of vitrified material, a bottom for said body provided with an opening, and a top for said body also provided with an opening, of a lamp, a gallery on said lamp for supporting the bottom and lower end of said body, a chimney on the top of the body, a lens-tube at the lower part of the body, a slide-guideway, a second lens-tube in line with the first
