Beit known thatwe,HoRAcE BRAD HooPER and JOHN IRWIN MYLEs,citizens of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of EllPaso and State of Colorado, have 'invented newfand useful Improvementsin Blank Books, of which the following is a specification. i Y u Our invention relates to improvements in blank books; and it has for its general object tcrprovide a blank book in which a record of the marks appropriated to the laundry of different partiesV may be conveniently keptin such manner as to removethe liability ofthe same mark being applied to the vlaundry of two or more parties and also in such manner that the name or the laundry-work of any party may be quickly and easily referred to.

With the foregoing in mind the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing,'in

The leaves. complemeutaryto each tab C and constituting a series are'prbvided, asindicated by D, with some or all of the vowels. The vowels are distributed among the leaves of a series and, as shown, the vowel A is placed on the left-hand side of the first leaf, the vowel E on the second leaf, the vowels I and O on the third leaf, and the vow- -bearing the letter B,and so on.

vowels o'f each series are printed o'r otherwise placed directly on the leaves comprised-,in the series, asshown at the right of thedrawing. When sufficient leaves are comprised in a`se ries, a vowel may be arranged on each leaf or on every other leaf, as desired. i

The right-hand side of each leaf VB serves, in conjunction with the left-hand side of each precedingleaf,to form the pagesE of the book. Each page is divided into vertical columns ct, b, c, d, @,f, g, bmj, 7c, l, fm, fn, 0,19, q, and r, Vwhich are provided with the headings Namef flnitial, Address, t DriverI or Agency, u Name, or vcc 1,19 a: 2,77 Y:4c 3,@ .4 Q51?! cca cn: 7,17r :877 9,37 A to E,7 F to J, K to O, Pto T, and U to Z, respectively. Each page is also provided at its extreme right with a column s fora purpose presently described.

A In the practical use of the book the names of persons are' entered alphabetically-that is, the names of persons whose surnames begin with AA are enteredon the pages of the series following the index-tab bearing the letter A and the names of persons whose surnames begin with B are entered on the pages of the series following the index-tab Also the names of persons are entered on the pages of a series according to the first vowel occurring in their surnames. For instance, ifthe surname of a party is Andrews his name is entered on that page of the series following the indextab A whichvbears the vowel E.

The' manner of arranging thenanies, addresses, marks, ac., on the pages is as followsi The surnames of parties are entered in column a, their initials in column b, their addresses in column c, and the numbers of the routes or agencies to which they belong im column d. The mark appropriated'tothe laundry of a party mayconsist'of the firstlletter of his surname and one or more numerals, of his initials, or of the first letter of his surname and the first vowel in said surname. If the mark is A 102, for instance, it is placed in column e opposite the partys name.

If the mark is made up of the Iirst letter of the surname of the party and the first vowel in the surname, it is placed opposite the partys name in the column s. l

When the entries are made on the pages of the book in the manner described, it will be observed that the liability of the same mark vbeing appropriated to the laundry of. diierhowever, that in practice such changes or modifications maybe made in the book as do not involve a departure from the scope of our invention as claimed.

Having described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

In a blankbook, a plurality of leaves divided by index-tabs bearing the letters of the alphabet, arranged in proper sequence, into series of several leaves each; the leaves of each series having distributed among them and bearing directly on their left-hand sides some or all of the vowels, and the pages formed by the leaves, each having a column for the entry of names, a plurality of columns numbered in regular order, and a plurality of columns lettered in regular order.
