Be it known that I, EDWARD G. HORNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Durant, in thecounty of Blue, Indian Territory,

5 .have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Braces, of which the following is a speciication.

The object of this Vinvention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means for effectually ro bracing the corner-post of a wire fence.

With this and other objects, which will be disclosed in the following description, in view the invention consists of the parts and com- D lbinations of parts, as will be hereinafter der-5 scribed, and pointed out in Athe appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, l indicates the corner-post, 2 the fencewires, and 3 the ordinary fence-posts, mountz 5 ed between the corner-posts. A king-post 4 is located a short distance from each cornerpost 1, and an inclined brace 5 has its upper end 6 beveled and bears against the cornerpost 1, The lower end of the brace 5 is bev- 3o eled horizontally, as shown at 7, and vertically, as shown at 8. The horizontal bevel 7 of the brace is supported upon a block 9, resting upon the ground adjacent to the kingpost 4, and the vertical bevel 8 bears against The upper end of the inclined brace 5 is provided with a notch, as shown at 1l, in which is secured an end of a wire cable 12, and the other end of this cable is connected to the adjacent end 4o of an elongated anchor 13, placed4 in the earth to one side of the corner-post l in alinement with the fence and in a positionso that the cable 12 is nearly vertical, thereby obtaining a direct downward pull upon the upper end i at'one end to the outer end of the anchor 13, and its other end is secured in a notch l5 near the top of the king-post 4. A wedge 16 is driven between the block 9 and the king- 5o post 4.

The action of the brace is as follows: After A Wire cable 14 is connectedV the brace and fencing have beenbuilt the wedge 16 is driven, which tends to raise the upper end of the brace 5. This raising of the end, however, is prevented by the brace-cable 12, which holds it down andagainst the corner-post 1, thereby forcing the same outwardly and stretching the wires of the fence. The king-post force acts as a brace for the brace 5 and is itself braced by the cable 14, 6o and both cables being connected at separate points to ananchor of special construction prevent the post l rising out of the ground or leaning.

When two lines of fencing are connected to one corner-post, the king-post 4 may be Set half-way between two lines, making Aone brace serve for both lines of fencing.

Various changes in form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be made 7o, within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new therein is- 1. In combination with the corner-post and a brace bearing loosely against one face of the post, of an anchor, a cable connected with the anchor and the upper end 0f the brace to prevent the brace sliding upwardly on the post, and means for moving the lower end of 8o the brace toward said post.

2. The combination with the corner-post,

a brace, a king-post and an anchor, of a wedge driven between the braceand the kingpost, a cable connecting the king-post with the anchor, and means holding the upper end of the brace down connected with said anchor. p

3. The combination with the corner-post,

a brace, and a king-post, an anchor, a cable connecting the king-post and the anchor, and 9o means holding the upper end of the brace down and also connected with said anchor,

of a block, an abutment on the block against which the brace bears, and a wedge driven between the block and the king-post. p

4. The combination with the corner-post,

a brace, and a king-post, of anl anchor, a cable connected to the upper end of the brace and to the anchor, and. a second cable connected to the upper end of the king-post and loo to the anchor.

5. The combination with the corner-post,

a brace, and a king-post, of a block, an abutment on the block against which the brace bears, a wedge driven between the block and the king-post, an anchor, a cable connecting the anchor and the brace, and a cable connecting the anchor and the king-post.
