GAM E APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 734,752, dated July 28, 1903.
Application filed November 7, 1902- Serial No. 130,433. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS G. RING,of Concord, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and and also to catch a ball thrown by another player.
The invention consists in the improved device which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
The accompanying drawing represents a longitudinal section of a ball throwing and catching device embodying my invention.
Myimproved device comprises, first, a handle a, formed to be conveniently grasped and held by the 'operators hand, the said handle being substantially straight; secondly, a tube 6, formed on or affixed rigidly to the handle a and extending in the same direction as the latter, and, thirdly, a flaring mouth I) to facilitate the entrance of a ball into the tube. The
1 tube bis closed at its inner end and is of substantially uniform internal diameter.
travel in a path which is approximately in line with the tube. The ball 0, which may be an ordinary tennis-ball, is formed to it loosely in the interior of the tube. The handle and tube may be made of aluminium or any other suitable material, the construction being such that the tube is rigidly supported by the handle and constitutes in itself a rigid structure, as distinguished from a net or flexible bag.
It will be seen that the operator grasping the handle a is enabled to accurately throw a ball by giving the device a forcible swinging movement. It will also be seen that the device may be conveniently used for catching a ball thrown by another player.
I claim A ball throwing and catching device comprising a handle, a tube extending substantially in line with the handle and of substan tially uniform internal diameter, and a flaring mouth at the outer end of the tube to faci1i-. tate the entrance of a ball into the tube, the
length of the tube being greater than its di ameter, whereby the movement given to a ball thrown by the device is approximately alined with the tube.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
