KILL, a citizen of the United States, residing 1 at Winters, in the county of Yolo and State of California, have invented a new and use-- ful Baby-Bugg of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in childrens carriages, and has for its principal object to'provide an improved form of carriage which may be folded together in such manner as to occupy but small space when not in use or may be extended for use as a carriage or employed as a crib, if desired.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it beingunderstood that various changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details ofthe structure may be made Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is buggy constructed in accordance with-the iuvention. Fig. 2 isatransverse sectionalelevation of the same on the line2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the bugg body detached. Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of one of the connections of the front supporting-springs.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.

The front and rear wheels 5 and 6 are of the ordinary construction and connected by axles 7 and 8, respectively, to the handles or shafts 9 of the carriage.

The body portion of the buggy is located wholly above the tops of the wheels in order to permit lateral extension of the body to form a carriage-of extraiwidth or to add. to the comfort of theoccupant when the device is used as a crib. The fixed portion of the bottom of the buggy is preferably inthe form of a board or plate of sheet metal 10, to the under side of which are connected the upper ends of a pair of springs 11, the springs being formed of strips of steel bent into U shape, the upper. arms .of said strips being rigidly secured to the bottom board and the lower ends being supported by the lower portions of the handles or shafts 9 of the carriage. In order to permit longitudinal adjustment of the spring with respect to the handles 9, the

handles are provided with elongated clips or sleeves 12, forming guides for the lower arms of the springs, excessive movement being prevented by dependingarms 13, carried by the springs and adapted to engage against the rear ends of the clips or sleeves 12. r

The front portion of the carriage is formed of three main members, including the bottom board. 10 and.laterally- adjustable side members 14 and 15, the bottom portions of which arein the form of thin boards or sheets of metal and each provided with transversely-disposed slots 16, through which extend headed bolts or pins 17, the bolts or pins passing also through suitable openings in the bottom board 10. The members 14 and 15 are secured to or formed integral with side boards or walls formed of woven cane, fabric,or other suitable material, andto the members let and 15 are secured foot board- sections 19 and 20, respectively. The foot board sect-ion 19 is provided with a headed bolt or pin 21, adapted to a transversely-extending slot 22, formed in the member 20, and said member 20 is further provided with oppositely-facing springcatches 23 and 24, arranged adjacent to the opposite ends of the slot 22 andadapted to automatically engage with the bolt at opposite ends -of theslot and lock the sections in either open or closed positions. The several members which constitute the front portion of the carriage are overlapped in such manner as to permit of extensive lateral adjustment of the side members with the severalbolts and slots as guides, the buggy beand 32, the side members being provided with slots 33 and the bottom board with suitable openings for the passage of headed bolts 34 for guiding and holding the several members in position. The side members may be provided with a headboard formed of overlapping sections and arranged in the same manner as the footboard or may be in the form illustrated in Fig. 2 and spaced from each other when the parts are opened out, a suitable locking-bar 38 being employed to connect the sections to each other and serving also as a support for a removable back-piece or cushion member of the character usually employed in buggies of this class.

The bottom board 30 is provided with springs 39, rigidly secured at one end to the board and at the opposite end to the rear wheel-axle 8 or to a portion of the handles or shaft, these springs being constructed and arranged in the usual manner.

The side members constituting the front portion of the body overlap those members which form the rear portion, and in the side members of the rear section are horizontallydisposed slots 42, adapted for the reception of headed pins 43, carried by the side mem-. bers of the front portion, there being suitable spring-catches disposed at or near each end of the slots adapted to automatically engage and lock the headed pins and hold the carriage in its adjusted position. The longitudinal adjustment of the members is rendered possible by the construction of the springs 11 and the spring guiding-clips 12, the whole of the front section being moved forward to any desired extent.

The wheels of the carriage may be placed closely together and the several members of the body so constructed as to permit of the contraction of the body within small compass to permit ready transportation from place to place, as well as to enable the device to be stored away when not in use.

The buggy is preferably made so as to accommodate a child of ordinary size; but when necessary it may be readily lengthened out in order to hold two children, or it may be extended laterally to form a crib for one or two children.

As the bottom of the body portion is wholly above the supporting-wheels, extensive lateral and longitudinal adjustment is permitted to accommodate a child of any age or to permit its use as a crib.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a baby-buggy, a body formed of a plurality of overlapping sections adjustable both laterally and longitudinally.

2. In a baby-buggy, a body formed of a plurality of overlapping sections adjustable both laterally and longitudinally, and catches for locking the sectionsin adjusted position.

3. In a baby-buggy, a body comprising head and foot members adjustable longitudinally with respect to each other, each of suchmembers comprising a pin rality' of overlapping and laterally-adjustable sections.

4. In a baby-buggy, a body comprising head and foot members adjustable longitudinally with respect to each other, pin-andslotconnections for maintaining the parts in proper relative position, and each of such members being formed of a plurality of overlapping laterally-adjustable sections having pin-and-slot connections, and catches for locking the several parts in adjusted position.

5. In a baby-buggy, the combination with the wheels and axles, of a body comprising head and foot members adjustable longitudinally with respect to each other, springs having a fixed connection with one member and with the running-gear, and a second set of springs connected to the opposite member.

6. The combination in ababy-buggy, of the runninggear including longitudinally-extending handle members or side-bars connecting the front and rear axles, clips or sleeves carried by the handle members, a body portion comprising longitudinally-adjustable members, springs connecting the rear members to the rear axle, and springs secured to the foot member and guided by said clips or sleeves.

7. The combination in ababy-buggy of the running-gear including longitudinally-disposed handle-bar members or side-bars connecting the front and rear axles, head and foot members adjustable longitudinally and each provided with supporting-springs, clips or sleeves carried by the handle members and embracing the front springs to permit longitudinal adjustment thereof, laterallyextending arms carried by said springs to pre vent excessive movement, laterally-adjustable side members carried by both the head and foot members and each provided with transversely-disposed guiding-slots, headed bolts extending through said slots, and springs for locking the several members in adjusted positions.
