TO ALL WHOM IT MAY ACONCERN: l
Be it known that we, JAMES LAMB, of Aurore, in the county of Dearborn, and State of Indiana, nndFRANCIS LIVINGS, of East Enterprise, in the county of Switerland, and State of Indiana,;have invented a. nenT and useful Improvementin Scafolds for Builders,l of which the following is a. full and ex'eet description', reference vbeing had to theaccompanying drawings-making part of this specification.
The nature of our invention relates to such aI construction ot`brackets, and their arrangement with shore"timbers, that the platform which rests upon the brackets may be raised or lowered with facility by pinning the foot of the shore-timbers nearer or further from' the wall, or other vertical or inclined surface'.
Figure 1 represents n 'perspective viewj of our improved scnifold;
Figure 2 is a. transverse section of tiresome. d
lA is the pleti'ormpwhich theworkmen stuud uponwhile constructing the various portsv ofa. building. B B are the main or floor-timbers of the platform. They constitute the principal nrt of the framework ot' the 'braekets, and abut, one end upon the wall when the shoretimbers C are in place, with the tootof eaeh,`.
a a, secured in place upon the gronnd or floor by the pins n', and the other end, 12,v of each stoppedin sockets, e, in the under side of the main timbers, B B, near their abutting ends, d, as Aexhibited in detail in iig.' 2. To the outer ends of the main timbers B B are secured, one on cach side, the legs D D, which incline donnwardstoward thewallrat on angle of about forty-live degreesl They have their feet, e-e, separated some distance. Vertical braces,f, :ire secured to the outside of the-main timbers B B, Near their abutting ends they pass inside of the legs D D, to which they are made fast by the bolt-rods E E.v These rods are provided withtightening-nuts, g, g, inside of each bracef, und, outside of each leg D.
To erect the scotfold5 the xabutting ends of the main timbers are ploced'agninst the n'nlLund the end, c?, ot"
each shorc-timber, C, which is pointed so as to lit the'sookets c in the abutting ends of the main timbers B B. The shore-tiniber is passed between the'braces and legsvof the brackets. .The brackets are then pressed up to the desired height, when the pins a are' so placed that the foot, a, of each shore-timber is prevented from slipping out. The platform A, consisting of one or more boards, is then placed upon tho-brackets, when the scaffold is ready for use. i Y
A scsold, constructedl in the manner herein deseribed,'hns the advantage over others of being simple in construction;` as well as durable. The esse with which it may he put in place and removed is greatly facilitated by the dare of the legs of each ot' the brnckets, whereby greater security is obtained to the structure, and thoseeinployed upon it.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure oy Letters Patent, is- Y The horizontal bnr B, notched'near its inner end, provided with diagonal braces D D, and vertical bers f f, bolted together as described, between which are passed the shore-timbers C, connecting into the notoh in bar B. for supporting one end of the platform A, all constructed and used ns specified JAMES LAMB, FRANCIS LlVlNGS.
