GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 733,102, dated July 7, 1903;.
Application filed June 14, 1901.
To all whom it int/y. concern.-
Be it known thatl, JENNIE WILKINSON, a
citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Ouyahoga, and State of. Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification, the principle use it has been customary to employ a series of sharp teeth for catching the rear lower edge portion of the shirt-waist and hold same in place. Such arrangement has been found to be very objectionable in that it results in the tearing of the fabric of the shirt-waist." Such objectionable feature is eliminatedby my said invention.
The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail certain mechanism embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
. In said annexed drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a garment-supporter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevationof the rear, intermediate portion of my improved garmentsupporter. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the portion shown-in Fig.
2, and Figs. Land 5 illustrate the end portions of the two side pieces which are contiguous. to the ends of the rear portion. Fig. 6-is a view showing aportion of a shirt-waist with the rear intermediate piece of the supporter in position thereon.
' Said device consists of the rear intermediate piece A and the two side pieces B B, all constructed of thin sheet metal. Piece A is provided upon its lower edge with a series of downwardly-projecting prongs a, which are one of the eyes a Serial No. 64,536. (No model.)
made blunt, so as to prevent all possibility of their catching and tearing fabric adjacent 'thereto.-
at, and adjacent to each such slotis a series of'keyhole-eyes a Each contiguous end Z) of the side pieces B is reducedin size, so as to be capable of insertion through its respective slot a, and is provided with a button I), having a reduced neck and adapted to enter any In securing the side and rearpieces each of the former ispassed through its respective slot a from the outside inwardly and the button inserted and secured in one of the eyes a contiguous to such end, as shown in Fig. 1.
The outer surface of each of the side pieces is provided with a series of hooks 11*, upon which the skirt is hung and supported, as is also the outer surface of the rear piece A,
Fig. 2.-
Suitable means are provided for securing means, however, constituting no part of my herein-described invention.
The device as above described is simple in construction, may be readily adjusted. to different lengths, the range of variation depend ing upon the number of eyes in the rear piece, as is readily understood, and presents no sharp points upon which the shirt-waist is liable to catch and tear.
Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the mechanism herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any one of the. following claims or the equivalent of such stated. means be employed.
I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention- 1. A garment supporter comprising two side portions and a rear intermediate portion, the contiguous end of each side portion and rear portion being provided with a slot and a series of eyes and a button respectively, the
the front ends of the two side pieces, such one portion passing through said slot and seprovided with a. series of blunt teeth integral :0 cured to the other by means of such button therewith and projecting downwardly from and one of said eyes, said intermediate porthe lower edge thereof.
tion being provided with a series of-hooks and Signed by me this 7th day of J une, 1901;
5 downwardly-projeetin blunt pron 's. 1 2. A garmentsupp orter comprising two I JENNIE WILKINSON side portions and one rear intermediate porl Attest: tion, each such side portion being adjustably D. T. DAVIES, v
