WATER-CLOSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 732,955, dated July 7, 1903.` l
Application tiled October 27, 1902. Serial No. 128,935. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Sametime The further objects and advantages of my construction will be shown by the following speciicationand by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view ot' my irnprovement, the front of the bowl and pipe being broken away to show the trap in position.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view, the trap being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is a view of the upper part of thev bowl, parts being in section and the pipe from the flushing-tank being in elevation. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of thestep, the lower part being broken away to show the seat for the spring.
In carrying out my improvement'l employ the usual bowl A, flushing-tank B, and the discharge-pipe C. The upper part of the bowl is surrounded by an annular inwardly- A pipe B extends at the rear and is bent around to the front, passing under the annular flange, and is downwardly open at its front end.
The pipe C has an annular shoulder C formed therein, and beneath this shoulder rests a valve C2, pivoted at C3. The side of the pipe opposite the pivoted side of the valveis cut out, as at C4, for a purpose to be hereinafter described. A' plate D is secured terminating at its upper end in a step D5, the upper face of which is serrated. A rod Da extends from the rear of the step upward and at its upper end is attached to a link Df,which in turn operates a valve of the usual construction located atB2in the iiushing-pipe B. I
Rigidly secured to and extending from the standard DL1 is a rod E, which passes through the cut-out portion C4 and is then bent upward, its end normally resting beneath and supporting the free edge of the valve C2. To keep the opening C4 closed, slide-plates E E2 cover the opening and slide with the rod E.
It will be obvious from the drawings that a downward movement of the step D5 will open the valve at B2 and throw the valve C2, the rod E being given a downward and horizontal movement. i Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. In an attachmentof the kind described, the combination with a bowl, of a iiushingpipe, adischarge-pipe, a valve pivoted in the discharge-pipe, said pipe being cut away on one side below the valve, a movable step outside the bowl, a rod extending from the step to the valve, slide-plates covering the opening in the pipe, and means connected to the step for flushing the bowl when the step is depressed.
2. In an attachment of the kind described, the combination with a discharge -pipe, a valve pivoted therein, said pipe being laterally cut away below the valve, sliding plates covering said opening, a rod having one end resting beneath the valve and" extending through said opening, a movable step connected to the outer end of the rod, a spring under said step, and means connected to the ustep for ushingthe'- pipe when the step is depressed.
