FLUSH FOR WATER-CLOSETS.

T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD LEVINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flushes for ater-Closets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in

This invention relates to an improvement' for flushes for water-closets. In the more general construction of flushes for waterclosets a tank is employed to which water is supplied, the inlet being controlled by some form of valve mechanism usually operated by a float. This inlet-valve mechanism, including the float, is quite liable to become disarranged and frequently needs adjustment.

The object of this invention is to provide a flush for water-closets so arranged that no valve is required to control the in-' flow of water and, consequently, no floats are required to operate such valve mecha-' nism, and the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.

In carrying out my invention, I employ a header 5, provided with an opening 6, with which the water supply is connected. This header is connected by a nipple 7 with a valve-chamber 8, in the bottom of which is a discharge-outlet 9 leading to the watercloset bowl not shown. This outlet is provided with a flange 10, supporting a packing-ring 11, forming a seat for a bell-shaped valve 12, supported by links 13 and 14 from the outer end of a lever 15, which is provided with a bracket 16 secured to one side of the valve-chamber 8 and provided with a downwardly-projecting finger 17 in line with a plunger 18, which is mounted in a stufling-boX-bearing 19 and provided at its outer end with a button 20. which is mounted in a Web 23 in the outlet 9 and so that the valve is guided, when moved, in a vertical direction. The valvechamber 8 may be provided in one side with an opening closed by a cap-plate 24, so that access may be had to the valve mechanism. It will be understood that the pressure of water supply is always maintained in the device. To flush the closet, the button 20 is pushed inward in the usual manner, liting the valve from its seat and allowing the water in the valve-chamber and header to escape through the bottom outlet, this water being under the pressure of the head maintained in the service pipe. The pressure of Water, when the valve is first raised, will tend to hold the valve in its raised position, so that the necessary quantity of water may escape. At the same time, the pressure of water upon the valve will gradually force it to its seat and shut oil the discharge.

I thus provide suitable flushing means for water-closets and avoid the necessity of valve mechanism for controlling the water supply, and means for operating such controlling mechanism, thus providing a device which is not liable to become disordered.

I claim:

1. A flush for water-closets comprising a valve-chamber provided at its lower end with an outlet, a valve adapted to close said outlet, a vertically-arranged in mounted in the outlet adapted to gui e the said valve to its seat, means including a pushpin for lifting said valve, a header connected with said valve-chamber and adapted to be coupled with a water supply pipe.

2. A flush for water-closets comprising a valve-chamber provided in one side with an opening closed by a cover, an outlet in the bottom of the said chamber, a flange above said outlet, a packing-ring mounted on said flange, a vertically-guided valve coacting with said packing-ring to close said outlet, means operated by a. push-button for lifting said valve, a header communicating with said valve-chamber, said header adapted to be coupled with a water supply.
