HANS P. HANSEN, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
FLUSH-VALVE FOR WATER-CLOSETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 23, 1913.
Application filed April 12, 1913. Serial No. 760,572.
To aZt whom it may concern Be it known that I, I-IANs I I-IANsnN, a citizen of the Danish Monarchy, and a resident of Hoboken, Hudson county, New J crsey have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flush-Valves for Water- Closets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to flush valves for water closets of the type in which the water closet is provided with an inside perforated water chamber from which the water is forced out to flush the water closet.
The object of the invention is to provide a flush valve adapted to be placed inside the water closet and so arranged that when the seat of the latter is depressed in use the valve is opened to flush the closet.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown my invention in its preferred form of a water closet seen from the front and partly in section and the valve mechanism inside the water closet being shown in section also.
In the drawing the reference numeral 1 designates the water closet of a construction known to the art and which includes a ring or water chamber 2 having downwardly extending openings 8.
4 is the seat.
5 represents a water supply pipe extending upwardly from the floor on the outside of the water closet and which pipe passes through an opening 6 in the wall thereof. Inside the water closet the pipe 5 carries a nipple 7 having a valve seat 8.
9 is an outlet section screwed onto the nipple and to which an outlet pipe 10 is screwed. The outlet pipe connnunicates with the water chamber 2 as shown.
11 is a section of pipe secured to the sec tion 9. The lower edge of the pipe 11 is hammered inwardly to form a shoulder 12 upon which rests a washer 13.
1 1 is the valve stem having a head 15 and a collar 16. Between the latter and the washer 13 there is a spring 17.
18 is a valve adapted to be seated on the valve seat 8. The valve 18 is carried on the stem 14 and secured by a nut 19. Normally the stem 141 and with it the seat 4 are lifted by the upward pull of the spring 17 to close the valve. lVhen in use the seat 1 is forced down upon the water closet as shown and whereby the stem let is depressed to open the valve and the water passes from the supply pipe through the valve and into the water chamber 2 and is discharged through the openings 3 thus flushing the water closet. After the use the spring 17 closes the valve as will be understood.
Changes in the construction may be made within the principle of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
I claim The combination with a water closet having a circular water chamber at the top, a water supply pipe extending from the outside vertically through the wall of the water closet to the inside thereof, a nipple 7 secured to said water supply pipe and forming a valve seat, an outlet section secured to said nipple, a connection between said outlet section and said water chamber above the said valve seat, a pipe section 11 secured to said outlet section, a valve for closing said valve seat from below, a valve stem carrying said valve and moving vertically in said supply pipe, a shoulder formed at the lower edge of said pipe section 11, a washer on said shouldei', a collar on said valve stem, a spring interposed between said washer and the said collar for lifting the valve stem to close said valve, a seat for said water closet, the said valve stem being adapted to be depressed by the said seat to open the said valve.
Signed at New York, N. Y., this 11th day of April 1913.
HANS I. HANSEN.
