FLY-ESCAPE FOR WINDOW-SCREENS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters .I'Patent No. 732,634, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed August 25,1902.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. HEREFORD,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Fly Escapes for Screen Doors and Windows, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for permitting flies to escape outward through a screen door or window and consisting of a hollow truncated cone arranged in an opening in the screen and having its apex presented outward.
The object ofthe. invention is to provide improved means for securing the cone to the screen; and the invention consists in the features of novelty that are hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the outer side of a screen-door, showing the invention applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged views of fragments of the screen, showing the invention from the inside and outside, respectively. Fig. 4. is a central section of the improveddevice.
A represents a screen, having through it an opening in which is arranged a hollow truncated cone B, the base of the cone being provided with a radial flange b, which rests against the inner face of the screen. Surrounding the cone is a ring 0, which rests against the outer face of the screen and is held serial No. 120,921. (No soda.)
in place by a key D. This key preferably consists of a piece of wire doubled upon itself and passed through diametrically. opposite openings in the cone B, themiddle portion of the key thus formed being provided with an open loop (1 and the free ends d of the key being spread apart for the purpose of holding the key in place.
Having thus described my invention, the following is whatI claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a screen having an opening through it, ahollow truncated cone occupying said opening and having at its base a flange resting against one face of the screen,
a ring surrounding the cone and resting against the other face of the screen, and a key engaging the cone and ring for holding the ring in place, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a screen having an opening through it, of a hollow truncated cone occupying said opening and having at its base a flange resting against one face of the screen, said cone havi'ng'also diametrically opposite openings, a ring surrounding the cone and resting against the other face of the screen and a key passed through said openings in the cone and engaging the'ring for holding it in place, substantially as described.
" EDWARD L. HEREFORD.
