ALBERT LEISEL, OF PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TOSTANDARD TABLE OIL CLOTH COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMPOSITE MATERIAL.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No, 732,569, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed October 13, 1902. Serial No.127,049. (N0 specimens.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT LEISEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Peekskill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Composite Materials, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in composite materials particularly adapted for decorative purposes, such as wall-hangings,
signs, panels, &c.; and the object is to provide a composite material that shall be very strong, yet thin and flexible, and capable of ornamentation by embossing, painting,or tinting and be impervious to moisture.
I will describe a composite material embodying myinvention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a broken plan view of a composite material embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The material comprises a base or body portion 5, consisting of a textile material-such,
for instance, as cotton and on the outer side I of this textile material is a thick coating of oil-paint 6, which provides a smooth surface. On the opposite side is a thin coating 7 of oilpaint, which prevents the entrance of moisture to the fabric. The backing 8 consists of paper, which is secured to the thin coat of paint 7 by a waterproof adhesive 9such, for I instance, as rubber. This will render .the whole structure moisture or water proof.
fHaving thus described my invention, 1'
. ALBERT LEISEL.
