As before stated, the device is more particularly applicablejto supporting andcontrolling the cinches or girths of riding-saddles, and has for'its object the production of adevice which will combine in one framea'll vention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described, andspecied in the claims.

When employed as' a cinchfbuckle, the l y saddle straps or billets (indicated at 23) will be coupled to the buckle-frame and held in .place by the tongue 18 in the ordinary manner, and the cinch or girth strap (indicated y in position the tongue t8 will firmly support' the device and maintain ythe cinch or girth intact. By this means the .girth-may be tightened to any desired extent bythe rider without dismountingby'simplydrawing upward upon the billets 23,the lattef-being within easy reach from 'the saddle."t

when the latter ,can be thrown over into open position, (shown in 2,) carrying the ring y v easily-operated device for the purpose designed which is completely under the control of the rider when employed in connection with saddles and which will be equally as convenient when employed in connection with other portions of the harness. It may be constructed of any desired size to adapt it to any size of harness or saddle or for other purposes to which it may be adapted and may be modified in minor particulars without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

The side members 10 l1 will preferably be arranged converging toward the hooked end, as shown, whereby the tongue member is closely engaged at the sides and operative between and laterally supported by the side members. This feature adds materially to the value of the invention and prevents undue lateral movement to the tongue.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. A buckle comprising an open frame bent Yat one end 1o form a hook and provided with a transverse connecting-bar, and a tongue member movably connected to said transverse bar by one end and turned backwardly at said end to form a hook in conformity to the hookshaped portion of said fratrie and extended into engagement with the frame and forming the tongue member of the buckle, said fratne and tongue forming a hook-like support for a ring or other member detachable from thebuckle-frame by the outward movement of the tongue.

2. A buckle comprising a frame formed of spaced side members transversely united at one cud, and bent at their other ends to form a hook, said hooked ends being connected by a transverse bar, and a tongue member movably connected to said transverse bar by one end and bent and turned backwardly to form a hook in conformity to the hooked portion of said frame and extended between said hooked ends in transverse alinement therewith, a hook-like support being formed for a ring or other member detachable from said buckle-frame by the opening of the tongue. 3. A buckle comprising a frame formed of spaced side members transversely united at one end and bent at the other end to form hooks with the hook-shaped ends connected by a transverse bar having shouldered stops, and a tongue member movably connected to said transverse bar and backwardly turned and conforming with the hooked portion of said frame and extended into engagement therewith and provided with lateral stops adapted to be engaged 4by said shouldered stops when said tongue is in its reversed position to limit its outward movement, substantially as described.

4f. A buckle comprising a frame formed of side members spaced apart and converging toward one end and bent to form a hook, the converging hooked ends united by a transverse bar, a tongue member movably connected by one end to said bar and operative between said side members and backwardly turned near said connected end to conform to the hooked ends of said frame and extended in engagement therewith, a hook-like sup port being formed for a ring or other member. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto ai'lxed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
