ROBERT SOMERVILLE GIBSON, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHAIR H EAD-REST..
SPECIFICATION forming .part of Letters latentNo. 729,324,11ated May 26, 1903,.
Application filed ot0ber16, 1902. Serial No. 127,519- (No model.)
To all whom it may conaerm Be it known that I, ROBERT SOMERVILLE GIBSON, a citizen of the United States, and
a resident of the city of'New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State-of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in ChairHead-Rests, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in head-rests for barbers chairsor the like, the object being to provide a new and clean bearing-surface or rest for each customer, thus reducing the danger of spreading scalp diseases or the like.
blade also serving as a clamp for the paper.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the back of a chair, and 2 the cushioned headrest, attached thereto in the usual manner.
Secured to the ends of the frame of the cushion or head-rest 2 are'metal strips 3, on the upper ends of which hooks 4 are formed to receive a wire loop or hanger 5, in which a roll of paper 6 is'suspended. At the lower edge a cutting blade 7 has a swinging connection with the'metal strips 3. The paper is passed between the shaft portion of this cutting-blade and the cushion 2, and the paper is held from accidental movement by means. of a spring 8 engaging at one end against the blade and at the other end against one of the metal strips and forcing the cutting-blade near its shaft closely against the paper. After cutting off the usedstrip of paper another strip may be drawn out after swinging the blade upward.
In Figs. 2, 3 I have shown a metal strip 9 secured to the upper edge of the cushion or head-rest 2 and provided with hooks 10 at its ends for receiving the loop or hanger, and on the lower edge is secured a strip 11, having lugs 12 at its ends for receiving the shaft 13, on which the cutting-blade 7 is mounted.
In the operation when a new head-rest surface is required the paper is to be drawn over the cushion 2 and the part previously used is to be torn or cut ofi against the blade 7.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent-- 1. The combination with a chair head-rest cushion, of a paper-roll hanger supported on one side of the rest and a cutter on the opposite side, the said cutter being adapted to clamp the paper, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with a chair head-rest cushion, of hooks arranged at one side thereof, a paper-roll hanger supported by said hooks, and a spring-pressed cutting-blade at the opposite edge or side of said rest, sub stantially as specified.
3. The combination with a. cushioned headrest for a chair,- of 'metal strips secured to the ends thereof, and having hooks at .the upper end, a hanger supported insaid book ends, and a plate having swinging connection with the lower ends of said strips, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT SOMERVILLE GIBSON.
