"PATENT OFFICE.
DOOR AND WINDOW .FOR CARRIAGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 727,979, dated May 12, 1903. Application mea December 5, 1902. serial No. 134,015. (No modem To all whom t may concern:
Be it known lthat I, JOHN BEACHE LE MAI- TRE, a subject of the4 King of Great Britain, residing at 45 Grantham road, Sparkbrook, near Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Doors and Windows for Oarriagesand to the Mode and Means for Operating the Same, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object improvements in and relating to railway-carriage and other windows and to the mode and means for operating the same by which such Windows and sashes can be raised and lowered or fixed in any intermediate position with greater facility.
The accompanying drawing is a front elevation of the inside of a railway-carriage door with my invention applied thereto.
Suitably mounted on the front of the door on the inside of the compartment in any desired or suitable position is the disk wheel a, having the handle b, and also mounted on the disk-wheel spindle is the sprocket-wheel c. Mounted on the sprocket-Wheel cis the endless chain g, which also passes around the pulley j, hung on the inside ofV the door. A second chain is secured 4at 4one end to the chain g at q, the other end of this chain passing down and around the pulley k, hung to the bottom of the window t', the end of the chain being attached to the hook l, which is secured to the door-frame. By turning the disk wheel o, by the handle b the window is raised and lowered with great ease.
Myimproved means for raisingand lowering windows is also specially suitable for road-carriages, cabs, and the like.A
WhatI claim, then, is-
The combination with a Window and its frame, of pulleys mounted on said frame, an Vendless-chain carried by said pulleys, a pulley attached to the window, and a chain havingvone end xedto the frame and the other end passed around said pulley on the window and attached to the endless chain.
Inwitness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN BRACHE LE MAITRE.
