Description

EATBNTBD Mmes, 19,03. C. H. RIGGLB. FISH PLATE. APPLIOATIQN FILED DBU. 9. 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARK H. RIGGLE, OF PLEASANT VALLEY, OHIO.
FISH-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 726,760, dated April 28, -1 903-.
Application iiled December 9 1902. Iv Serial No. 134,540. y(No model.) Y
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known th at I, CLARK H. RIGGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at PleasantV ish-plates for railroad-joints and means for vss securing them; and the object of the same is to construct a device which will not work v loose and will firmly secure the trackagainst spreading.
The simple and novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described and claimed in this specieation and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, fcrming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse section of a track equipped with my device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail ofthe fish-plates. Fig. 4 is a detail of the clamp.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the dierent views of the drawings.
In the drawings are shown a raill, which forms-one side of a track, and two abutting rails 2, which form the other side of the track. The track is supported on ties 3, and the rails 2 have apertures 4 in the ends thereof to acplate bearing studs designed to t apertures commodate studs 5, formed on a fish-plate 6. The studs 5`pass through the apertures 4 and engage a iish plate 7, having apertures 8 therein. A clamp 9 secures the plates 6 and 7 together and comprises a stationary jaw 10 and a sliding jaw 11, mountedin guides 12` and actuated byan adjusting orolamping screw 13',bearing on the rear end thereof. Y The guides 12v are formed von a headi14, which bears a threaded neck 15, which is' engaged by a turnbnckle 16, which also engagesfa threaded shank 17, bearing a claw 18,'whichY then engaged on the rail 1 and the turnbuckle tightened. It is now evident that by my de Vice the ish-plates are securely held and the track held againstr spreading. v
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spiritof my invention.
Having thus described` my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of ahead bearing a fixed jaw and a sliding jaw, means for clamping said jaws to secure iish-plates, a threaded shank bearing a claw, and a turnbuckle connecting said head and said threaded shank, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, the
-combination of a head-bearinga fixed jaw and a sliding jaw coperating withsaid fixed jaw, means for securing said jaw against move designed to engage one railwhile said irstf mentioned jaw engages the other rail of a track, and a turnbuckle engaging said Shanks,
substantially'as described. A
3. In a device of the class described, a fishin abutting rails, a fish-plate having apertures fitting over said studs,'a head provided with jaws-engaging and securing. said iishplates, and a claw bearing a shank adj ustably connected to said head, said claw being designed to engage the rail on the other side of lmy hand in presence of two subscribingfwitnesses.
