GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 726,397, dated April 28, 1903.
Application filed Angust16,1902. Serial No. 119,952. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JosEPH BRINKMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved game device, and has for its object the construction of an apparatus carrying images normally retained within the apparatus, but adapted to be thrown upward and appear in sight when a certain part of the apparatus is struck by a marble or other projectile.
The construction of my device is fully set forth in the following specification and the attached drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the exterior of my device, showing one figure orimage in its upward or released position. Fig. 2 is a cross-section showing an image in its released position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the image in its locked position. Fig. 4. is a detailed view, partly in section, of the trigger. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the trigger. Fig. 6 is a detail View of the spring carrying the image.
In the construction of my device I employ a frame A, which is practically a box with the bottom and the greater portion of the top removed, the cross-piece A being placed across the front upper portion for the image B to bear against and acting as a stop for the same. Along the bottom of the front of the box are produced openings A which may be graduated in size, as shown in Fig. 1. Extending longitudinally of the box and rigidly secured in either end piece about midway between the top and bottom and in substantially the vertical plane of the rear edge of the cross-piece A is ashaft B. A spring B is secured at one end to this shaft, coiled intermediate its ends at B and the other end secured to the image B.
Aspoon-shaped trigger O,having forwardlyprojecting side arms 0, is pivotally secured to the inner side of the box adjacent each opening by means of the trunnions 0 formed on the ends of the arms, and the eyes C secured to the box. From the rear central portion of the trigger a tongue 0 is struck upward. This tongue is adapted to engage an eye B secured in the back of the image.
The mode of using my device is as follows: The various images, of which there may be any number, are bent backward and the tongue of the trigger engaged with the eye. Marbles or other projectiles are then shot in the direction of the openings and on entering same will impinge against the curved. rear portion of the trigger, knocking same upward and releasing the tongue from engagement withv the eye, and the .spring immediately draws the image into an upright position against the inner edge of the cross-piece A, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a game apparatus, a box-frame having openings along one side, a shaft mounted within the frame transverse to the openings, images within the box, springs connecting the images to the shaft and adapted to normally hold them in a raised position and means for locking them in a downward position.
2. In a game apparatus, a boxframe having openings along one side, a rigid shaft within the frame, images secured to said shaft, means for locking them in a downward position, and, means for automatically raising them to an upright position when unlocked.
3. In a game apparatus, the combination with the frame, recesses out in the lower edge of said frame, spoon-shaped triggers positioned in the rear of the recesses, a shaft rigidly secured in said frame, a spring secured at one end to said shaft, images secured tothe other ends of the springs and means for-engaging said images with the triggers, substantially as set forth.
JOSEPH BRINKMANN.
