Be it known that I, HENRY MORTIMER HYDE, of Princeton, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved TentPin Extractor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.

My invention relates to an extractor for tent-pins, and has for its object to provide a device whereby a tent-pin may be drawn from the ground when driven so hard as to render it impossible to do so by hand.

The invention consists in a rectangular boxlike frame adapted to engage a tentpeg, having its forward end beveled, and a detachable connection between said frame and the handle of a mullet, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which'- Figure l of the drawings represents a perspective view of the device as applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of the clampingframe.

Heretofore when a tentpin could not be withdrawn by hand it has been the practice to strike the same upon the sides until loosened, whereby many pegs are broken off in the ground and much delay necessitated in striking tents; and to overcome these annoyances is the object of the present invention.

To that end a rectangular box like frame, A, is provided, having its front and rear ends inclined upon substantially the same angle to the rearward from the top, and the sides perpendicular. A rod, B, is attached to the rear of said frame by means of an eye, b,in the end of the rod being passed through an aperture, a, in the frame, as shown, or in any other approved manner, whereby a slight play is allowed. The other end of the rod B is also provided with an eye, Z), through which connection is had with a link, D, the said link being made more or less curved, the concave surface being the under surface, and at the point of connection of the link D with the rod B the said link is contracted, as at (Z. In operation the frame A is slid over the tent-pin H, and the lower edge of the inclined forward end brought in contact with the surface of said pin between the ground and the notch usually provided in tent-pins. The mallet is then placed upon the ground. handle up, in a substantially perpendicular position,and the link D may be thereupon slipped over the reduced end 6 of the said mallet-handle, which handle is grasped with the hand and drawn toward the operator, the frame A being thereby drawn heavily against the tent pin, extracting it from the ground in good condition, the mallet acting as a fulcrum.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An extractor for tcntpins, consisting of the rectangular box-like frame A, having a rearwardly-inclined forward end and perpendicular side, a rod, B, hinged to said frame at the rear, and a link, D, hinged to said rod, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. The combination, with the rectangular frame 5, having an inclined forward end, a rod, B, hinged to the rear end of said frame, and a curved link, D, hinged to said rod, of a mallet, E, having the handle adapted to receive said link, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.

3. The combination, with the rectangular box-like frame A, having inclined front and rear ends and perpendicular sides, a rod, B, hinged to the rear end of said frame, and a curved link, D, having a contracted end, d, hinged to said rod, of a mallet, E, provided with a handle having a reduced outer end, e, adapted to receive said link, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
