Be it known that 1, JOHN A. FRANZ, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new a d useful Improvements in Benches for Cemeteries, Lawns, and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My object is to construct anv improved. bench for cemeteries, lawns, and thelike; and. my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described, and claimed.

Figure l is a perspective of my improved bench. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of the bar which looks the watering-pot in place. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of one of the slipjoints employed in the back and seat.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the seat end pipes 5 have their inner walls drilled in the manner that the upper back pipe 14 and pipes 15 are arranged, as shown in Fig. 3, and the seat bottom pipes 6 are slipped into the openings. T-couplings 7 are placed upon the ends of the pipes 5 and are connected by the lower back pipe 8 and the front pipe 9, said pipes 8 and 9 having right and left threads. Nipples 10 extend outwardly from each of the couplings 7, and T-couplings 11 are fixed upon the outer ends of saidinipples.

Leg-pipes 12 extend downwardly from the couplings 11 and have caps 13 upon their lower ends. The lower back pipe 8 and the upper back pipe 14 have their inner walls drilled, as shown in Fig. 3, and the back pipes 15 are slipped into position. Elbows 16 are fixed upon the ends of the upper back pipe 14. Nipples 17 extend forwardly from the elbows 16. Elbows 18 extend downwardly from the nipples 17. The back-posts19 extend downwardly from the elbows 18. T- couplings 20 are fixed upon the lower ends of the posts 19. The arm-pipes 21 extend forwardly from the T-couplings 20, and elbows 22 are fixed upon the forward end of the pipes 21. The nipples 23 connect the T couplings 20 to the rear ones of the T-couplings 11, and similar nipples24 connectthe elbows 22 to the front ones of "the T-couplings 11, said nipples 23 and 24 having right and left threads. structed entirely of piperfittings havinga seat, supporting-legs, arm-rests, and. a back-rest.

The bench may be of any desired length, as desired, to accommodate one or more persons. r

T- couplings 25 and 26 are incorporated .into the rear one of the seat bottom pipes 6, and similar T-couplings 27 and 28 areincorporated into the next to theforward one of the seat bottom pipes 6 in transverse alinement with 'theT-couplings 25 and 26., Elbows 29 extend outwardly anddownwardly from the seat end pipe 5, and pipes 30 extend downwardly from the T- couplings 25, 26, '27, and 28 and the elbows 29. T- couplings 31 are fixed upon the lower ends of the pipes 30 which extend downwardly from the T-couplings 26 and 28. Similar T-couplings 32 are fixed upon the lower ends of the pipes'30 which extend downwardly from the elbows '29, and X-couplings 33 are fixed upon the lower ends of the middle pipes 30 which extend downwardly from the T-couplings 25 and 27. Pipes 34 extend downwardly from the T-couplings 31. Elbows35 are fixed upon the lower ends of the pipes 34, and a horizontal pipe 36 connects the elbows 35. Pipes 37 extend downwardly from the X-couplings 32. Elbows 38 are fixed upon the lower ends ,of the pipes 37, and the horizontal pipe 39 connectsthe elbows 38. Pipes 40 extend downwardly from the T- oouplings 32. Elbows 41 are fixed upon the lower ends of the pipes 40, and a pipe 42 conneots the elbows 41, therebeing a T-coupling 43 incorporated into the? middle of the pipe 42. Horizontal pipes 44-0onnect the T-oouplings3l to the X-couplings 33, and similar pipes 45 connect the X-couplings 33 to the T-couplings 32. The pipes 30, 44, and 45 have right and left threads. A T-coupling 46 extends outwardly from the seat end pipe 5 half-way between the elbows 29, and the lockingpipe 47 slides loosely through the T- coupling 46 into the upturned end ,of the'T- coupling 43. An opening 48 is formed through the pipe 47 below the T-coupling 46 to receive a padlock to lock the bar in position. A T- A watering-pot 51 (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1) may be inserted into the basket by removing the pipe 47, the handle 52 of the watering, pot passing downwardly between the pipes 39 and 42, the spout 53 passing over the pipe 36, so that the brace 54 will rest upon the pipe 36 and the upper end of the watering-pot will rest upon the pipe 39. When the pipe 47 is placed in position and the lock applied, the watering-pot cannot be removed.

The object of the parts 25 to 4:9 is to produce a basket within which the watering-pot may be stored and locked. The use of the elbows 16 and 18 and the nipples 17 gives the back of the bench a suitable slope or incline.

I claiml. A bench for cemeteries constructed of pipe-fittings, and comprising a seat, supporting-legs, arm-rests, and a back; certain parts being joined to form sections; and the sections being joined together by right and left threads, a metallic barred or slatted basket, a detachable bar forming a part of said basket and a lock arranged to temporarily secure said bar; substantially as specified.

2. A bench for cemeteries constructed of pipe-fittings, and comprising a seat, supporting-legs, arm-rests, and a back; certain parts being joined to form sections; the sections being joined together by right and left threads; and there being openings at suitable points to let the Water out, a metallic barred or slatted basket, a detachable bar forming a part of said basket, and a lock detachably applied to one end of said bar, substantially as specified.
