UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN E. NOBLE, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
BRIDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Batent' No. 725,626, dated April 14, 1903.
Application filed April 11,1902- To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN E. NOBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne,in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles; and I do declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to'the accompanying drawings, and to the figuresof reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bridles for beasts; and the object of my improvement is to afiord a bridle capable of controlling beasts to which it is applied without the use of a bit.
I accomplish my object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my bridle in place upon the head of a beast. Fig. 2 is a plan of the controlling mechanism, and Fig. 3 is a top view of the controlling mechanism with the actuating-lever partly drawn outward.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several Views.
My invention operates to effect lateral pressure at a point approximately back of the mouth and coincidentally to tighten the chin and nose straps about the muzzle of the beast. To accomplish this, I have made a U-shaped metal frame 17, with lugs 20 at its ends, in which is fixed a pin 18. A loop 11 is made integral with the base of said frame, to which the chin-strap 12 is attached. A loop 2 is made integral with the side of the frame 17, to which is attached the cheek-strap 1. The sides 3 of said loop extend a short distance parallel with said cheek-strap to prevent the frame from tipping. A corner-loop 5 is made contiguous with the loop 2 and side of the Serial No. 102,444. (No model.)
frame 17, to which is attached the checkrein 4. A lever 14 ranges within the frame 17 and is secured thereto upon the pin 18. The inner end of said leverhas a bifurcated lug 15, in which is loosely secured a lug 16,
'which thereby attaches the presser-bar 13.
. strap 12, and checkrein 4 accordingly connect with like parts thereof.
In operation when the loop 8 is drawn, as by tension of the rein 21, the presser-bar is carried inward by the lever 14 against the muzzle of the beast, and coincidentally therewith the nose-strap 6 by reason of its connection with the cross-piece 7 is drawn downward and the frame 17 with the chin-strap 12 attached thereto, is drawn upward, thus binding the beasts muzzle.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bitless bridle, the supporting-frames; a chin-strap connecting said frames; the levers pivoted insaid frames; presser-bars pivoted respectively to the lower ends of said levers; and a nose-strap attached at its ends to said levers respectively and being adapted to be actuated thereby.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN E. NOBLE.
