HARRY J. FRYSINGER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 724,841, dated April 7, 1903.
Application filed December 18, 1902. Serial No. 135,042. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HARRY J. FRYSINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have I made certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in game apparatus, and especially in that class of game apparatus illustrated in my former patent, No. 712,923, designed for playing what is termed royal pin-ball, and the present invention relates to the means for securing the canvas or netting to the end posts which support the same; and it consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus embodying my invention. one of the end posts with the bail or nettingholder applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the wire bails or netting-holders. Fig. 4 is adetail sectional view of one of the socket-pieces for holding the posts. Fig. 5 is a side elevation, partly in section, of one of. the end posts; and Fig. 6 shows another socket-piece, which is intended to hold the frame that supports the ball. 7 or A In the playing of this game a netting is provided to catch the pins, which latter are mounted on suitable supports or spots on the board A, and baffie-posts B are arranged near one edge of the board and on the opposite side of the pin-spots from the netting or canvas 0, and the ball D is normally suspended on the opposite'side of the baffleposts from the pin-spots, as will be under stood from Fig. 1 of the drawings, so it may be caused to operate between said posts to knock the pins E toward the netting or canvas G; The netting or canvas C is secured at its middle, which may be by a cord or wire 0' to the support F, mounted in socket ffor the ball, and at its ends to the end posts G, mounted on the board A and preferably held at their lower ends in suitable socket-pieces 9.
By my invention I provide means for conveniently connecting the canvas or netting with the end posts and preferably employ Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of return or hook portion H at the upper end of the bail and depending in position to enter a socket G in the upper end of the post G, as will be understood from Figs. 1, 2, and 5 of the drawings. The returnportion H enters the socket G in the upper end of the post Gr sufficiently far to firmly anchor the upper end of the bail to said post, the lower end of the bail being held by the fitting of the loop H around the post, as shown. By the described construction the bail can be readilyapplied to the post G and removed therefrom, so that the netting need only be under tension when the game is being played and can be removed and replaced at will.
The socket piece shown in Fig. 6 and applied in Fig.1 is designed to support the frame forholding the ball. Said socket-piece 'f has a central opening to receive the tube F, forming a part of the said support, and the socket is provided with a depending portion f to fit in an opening in the board A, and an opening projecting above the tubular portion f the latter having a set-screw f by which to hold the tube F in any desired adjustment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a game apparatus, the combination of the canvas or netting, the post for supporting one end of the same and provided in its upper end with a socket, and the holder in the form of a bail having a middle or main portion to which the netting is connected and provided at one end with a loop to encircle the post and at its other end with a returned portion or hook having a'depending point entering the socket in the upper end of the supporting-post, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with the netting, and the post for supporting one end thereof, of
the holder having a central portion to which the netting, is connected, and provided at its ends with portions slidable in the direction of length of the post into detachable engagement therewith, substantially as set forth.
3. In a game apparatus, a canvas or netting holder composed of a hail having a main portion to support the netting and provided at one end with a loop and at its other end with a returned portion or hook whereby the holder is adapted to engage at both ends with the supporting post, substantially as set forth.
'4. The combination with the supportingpost, having a socket in its end, of a holder adapted to secure netting or canvas and having at oneend a loop to encircle the post, and at its other end a returned or hook portion to enter a socket in the upper end of the post, substantially as set forth.
5. A game apparatus comprising a board, a socket-piecef fitted to the board, and having a depending tubular portion f, a lateral flange at the upper end of the tube f and arranged above the board and a tube] projecting above the flange and having a set-screw, and the ball-support fitted in said socketpiece, substantially as set forth.
